The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and ambitious Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team at an Upper Tier COMAH manufacturing site operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This role is designed to develop a future key contributor in the areas of Mechanical Integrity, Regulatory Compliance, Asset Reliability and Continuous Improvement. The successful candidate will gain exposure to the management of fixed and rotating equipment across a complex process manufacturing environment, supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of critical plant assets.

Initially providing support across a wide range of engineering activities, you will progressively assume ownership of key responsibilities as your technical knowledge and experience develop.

What you’ll be doing

As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, you will support site engineering activities that contribute to key operational drivers, including:

Compliance and Mechanical Integrity

  • Support compliance with Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), Approved Codes of Practice (ACOP) and Design Standards, for primary containment.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity of pressure systems and primary containment systems in accordance with the site's COMAH obligations.
  • Support activities aimed at the prevention of loss of containment incidents.

Reliability and Asset Performance

  • Assist with analysis of all planned inspections, using inspection data to generate reliability and other improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in ensuring that systems operate between inspection intervals and that deterioration is accurately anticipated to minimise down time.
  • Responsible for reliability improvement and ensuring that plant reliability activities are co-ordinated and delivered across all operating areas on site, with a consistent approach.
  • Participate in root cause investigations of equipment failures and support the implementation of corrective actions.

Engineering Support

  • Provide technical engineering support to identify and solve process, mechanical, operating and maintenance problems.
  • Support project-related mechanical engineering activities within assigned areas.
  • Engage with suppliers, contractors and specialist service providers as required.
  • Assist with planning, development, and coordination of special maintenance work, such as preventative plant maintenance.
  • Develop existing systems and procedures.

What you will bring

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Committed to working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.

Desirable Requirements

  • Associate Membership IMechE.
  • Relevant industrial placement, internship, or project experience.
  • An understanding of Continuous Improvement.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within an engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of SAP or other Computerised Maintenance Management System

How you will be rewarded

Throughout our structured two-year graduate programme, you will have access to mentoring and support from experienced engineers to support your progress to Professional Mechanical Engineer status.

We offer a competitive starting salary of £30,000 per annum and benefits package, which includes:
