If you're looking to build a career in commercial underwriting, this is an excellent opportunity to join Protector Insurance as a Mid-Market Underwriter. Based in the heart of Spinningfields, Manchester, Protector has experienced significant growth since launching in the UK in 2015 and continues to expand. Joining an established, high-performing underwriting team, you'll benefit from structured training, hands-on experience and genuine long-term career development within the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

As a Mid-Market Underwriter, you'll play an important role in delivering profitable growth by assessing and underwriting new commercial insurance risks across Property, Liability and Commercial Motor.

  • Underwrite new mid-market business with premiums of up to £50,000 GWP.
  • Assess and select risks across Property, Liability and Commercial Motor classes.
  • Identify, quote and secure high-quality new business opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with partner brokers, providing an excellent level of service and responsiveness.
  • Negotiate competitive and sustainable underwriting solutions.
  • Prioritise a high volume of submissions while making confident underwriting decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support continued growth and market development.
  • Develop your technical underwriting knowledge through a structured training programme and practical experience.

What We Are Looking For

We're looking for ambitious, analytical graduates who are keen to develop a successful career in underwriting.

  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • The confidence to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to prioritise competing workloads.
  • A genuine interest in commercial insurance and risk management.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a high-performing team.
  • A desire to learn and continually develop technical underwriting knowledge.
  • Previous insurance experience is not essential.
  • Full training will be provided, including support towards achieving professional insurance qualifications.
