Graduate Monitoring Surveyor

Graduate Monitoring Surveyor

Location: National

As a Graduate Monitoring Surveyor, you will play a vital role in supporting Watts' National Monitoring Team in delivering independent monitoring surveying services to lenders, investors and developers. You will assist in the assessment, monitoring and reporting of development projects across a range of sectors, helping clients manage risk and make informed funding decisions.

Working alongside experienced Monitoring Surveyors, you will gain exposure to all aspects of project monitoring, including due diligence, construction progress reviews, cost assessments and reporting.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical, commercial and professional skills within a collaborative and supportive environment.


Key Responsibilities

Main duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in the delivery of monitoring surveying services on residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure and mixed-use developments.
  • Support the preparation of initial due diligence reports for lenders and investors, reviewing project documentation, procurement routes, programmes and budgets.
  • Assist in assessing development appraisals, construction costs, contingencies and project risks.
  • Attend site inspections with senior surveyors to monitor construction progress and verify works completed.
  • Review contractor valuations, applications for payment and drawdown requests.
  • Support the preparation of progress reports and recommendations for funders regarding the release of development finance.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting project risks relating to programme, cost, procurement, quality and health and safety.
  • Develop an understanding of construction contracts, development funding structures and monitoring surveying best practice.
  • Maintain accurate project records and contribute to the timely delivery of client reports.
  • Build positive working relationships with clients, developers, contractors and professional teams.
  • Support the continued growth and development of the monitoring surveying service line.

About You

  • You will be a recent graduate, or due to graduate, with a degree in:

    • Quantity Surveying
    • Building Surveying
    • Construction Management
    • Or a related discipline
  • You will demonstrate:

    • A desire to pursue a career in Monitoring Surveying and achieve professional chartership through RICS.
    • Strong academic performance and a commitment to continuous professional development.
    • Good understanding of construction processes and project delivery.
    • Confidence in analysing information and presenting findings clearly.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • A full clean UK driving licence is essential.
