Graduate OT Security Engineer

Every pump, production line and control system in the country now runs on technology that someone has to keep secure. At NuvantiQ we help manufacturers and industrial operators do exactly that — and we’re building the team that will grow with us.

This is a graduate role for an engineer with a can-do mindset and real enthusiasm to build a career in cyber and OT. You don’t need a security background — you need an engineering foundation, curiosity, and the drive to learn. We’ll teach you the rest.

About NuvantiQ

NuvantiQ is a practitioner-led OT cyber-resilience consultancy, founded by engineers who have spent their careers on live industrial sites. We advise independently — vendor-neutral and standard-neutral — and our work runs from the boardroom to the plant floor. As an early-stage team, we can offer something a big graduate scheme can’t: real engagements, real mentoring, and real responsibility, far sooner.

Why an Engineering Graduate?

Some of the best OT security engineers didn’t start in cyber — they started as engineers. Understanding how a machine, a process line or a control system actually behaves, and why availability and safety matter more than a tidy security policy, is the hard part to teach. The cybersecurity, we can teach. If you’ve got the engineering instinct and the appetite to learn, we’ll help you build the rest of the toolkit.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Role

This is a role designed for growth. You’ll start by supporting our senior engineers on OT security assessments and monitoring deployments — learning the plant floor, the tooling and the tradecraft — and grow, with mentoring, into running your own engagements over time. Expect to spend real time on industrial sites: this is a hands-on, get-stuck-in role, not a desk-and-slides one.

What You’ll Do & Grow Into

  • Support our engineers on OT security assessments across manufacturing and industrial sites — learning how PLCs, SCADA, RTUs and HMIs work, and where the risks sit.
  • Help deploy and configure OT monitoring and threat-detection tools in live plant environments, from asset discovery through to tuning and handover.
  • Build asset inventories, network diagrams and clear, well-evidenced findings that clients can act on.
  • Develop a working understanding of how industrial networks are secured — segmentation, secure remote access and Zero Trust basics.
  • Get involved in workshops, site visits and client conversations — learning to translate between engineers, IT and security teams.
  • Take on more ownership as you gain experience — with structured mentoring and support toward industry certifications along the way.

What We’re Looking For

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering — mechanical, electrical, control, chemical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Genuine curiosity about how physical and industrial systems actually work.
  • A can-do, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude, and real enthusiasm to grow in the cyber and OT space.
  • Comfortable getting hands-on and spending time on industrial sites.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites across the UK.
  • A clear communicator who enjoys learning from engineers and clients alike.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK, and to achieve any security clearance required for critical national infrastructure work.

Bonus Points (Not Essential)

  • Any exposure to PLCs, SCADA, automation or control systems — through your degree, a placement or personal projects.
  • Basic scripting (Python, PowerShell) or networking fundamentals.
  • A demonstrated interest in cybersecurity — a module, a home lab, a CTF, or a certificate you’ve worked toward.
  • A placement year or internship in industry or manufacturing.

What You’ll Get

  • Structured mentoring from experienced OT practitioners — you’ll learn on real engagements, not in a classroom.
  • Support toward industry certifications over time (e.g. GICSP, IEC 62443) as you develop.
  • A founding-team seat — rare ground-floor exposure and a genuinely fast growth path.
  • Variety and board-to-floor exposure across industrial and critical national infrastructure sectors.
