Graduate Product Engineer

Why We Exist

Grocery retail is among the industries best positioned to benefit from AI. Retailers create huge volumes of data across a plethora of domains (Customer, Supplier, Store, Staff, Energy, Transport, Supply Chain and more), but today most grocers come nowhere close to using this data to its full potential. Retailers are united in their belief that AI will define the next era of competitiveness, yet most have only scratched the surface.

algo1 was born to correct this.

Mission matters to us. There are plenty of great startups that can give you autonomy, pace, and the feeling of being in it together. What makes us different is how we obsess over grocery and the shopper. If you want to change an experience that touches everyone, this is the right place.

About the Role

This is a role that blends curiosity and execution: you imagine how in-store grocery could feel, code it with AI, and get it in front of shoppers. You iterate rapidly, watching how shoppers respond to the features you prototype, then deciding whether an idea makes the cut. Features that prove themselves are handed to engineering to review, refine, and commit to the live product, all at pace.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

How you build matters as much as what you build. We're agentic-first, we've built our own coding harness, and everyone works on max plans, so you'll never be rate-limited. The only limit will be your ability to imagine what shoppers truly value.

What You'll Do

  • Own an idea end to end: from concept to proven feature
  • Research market trends, shopper behaviour, and competitor offerings to shape your initial concepts
  • Code a feature and iterate rapidly, testing prototypes with real shoppers

About You

You have been building things for as long as you can remember, and most of it nobody asked you to build. There's a trail behind you: side projects, code you wrote at midnight to solve a problem only you had, a thing you shipped that real people ended up using. You went deep on something once, further than the assignment needed, purely because you couldn’t leave it alone. That instinct is what we’re hiring for.

You’ll have the agentic coding skill to turn an idea into a working feature fast, and an instinct for what shoppers actually want. We’re a startup, so this is a high-intensity environment, and the people who do well here have always thrown themselves fully at the things they care about.

Engineering and product sit right on top of each other here, and this role lives on that line: product at heart, built for someone who codes.

This is a graduate role, and it reports to our Head of B2C Product but sits closely with engineering too.

Office Is Our Default

We get our energy from being together, so this is primarily an office-based role. It will suit someone who loves the quick conversations and the connection of building something together at pace. We're on what we think is the best garden square in London, a couple of minutes from Tottenham Court Road, so it's easy to get to and a good place to be.
