The Role
Within the Careers and Employability Service, the Student and Graduate Opportunities Team source and provide part-time work, internships, volunteering, and graduate jobs for students and graduates. The Graduate Recruitment Consultancy is part of this team, responsible for building and managing relationships predominantly with local SMEs and increasingly some larger national employers, providing a bespoke recruitment service, inviting them to events and making introductions to other business areas within the university.
The Graduate Recruitment Consultant's primary function is to place graduates in graduate-level positions with local employers and gain new business for the University through an effective sales operation. They will be targeted to achieve new business by sourcing new graduate opportunities to present to both final-year students and graduates of up to 5 years. They are also targeted on the number of graduates they place. The Graduate Recruitment Consultants will be required to generate new leads, communicate with employers, students, and graduates, and place graduates from a wide portfolio of courses. Private sector placements generate revenue for the university and consultants need to inform and agree on the payment of this fee with these employers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
