About the Role

This full-time post is offered as a fixed-term contract and is funded by Cancer Research UK until 31st July 2028. In line with the University’s fair employment for all principles, any further funding opportunities will be reviewed and discussed during the contract.

Salary

The starting salary depends on the role and experience:

  • Graduate Research Assistant (Grade E(25)): £33,951
  • Postdoctoral Research Associate (Grade E(26)): £34,610
  • Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Grade F): £43,482

The Role

The Faculty seeks a Graduate Research Assistant, Postdoctoral Research Associate, or Postdoctoral Research Fellow with strong quantitative skills to lead research projects. This full-time post, available from 1 August 2026 to 31st July 2028), is part of a large Cancer Research UK funded research programme led by the University of Bristol.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and apply research ideas and methods, applying cutting-edge statistical techniques to investigate links between:
    • Metabolic disease
    • Reproductive ageing
    • Cancer
  • Provide evidence on causes of cancer through genetic analyses:
    • Investigate relationships between:
      • Fat distribution
      • Hormonal status and cancer (using methods like Mendelian randomization)
    • Analyse:
      • Genomic and health data from large population-based cohorts
      • Large-scale genome-wide association studies
      • Population-scale whole-genome sequencing analyses

About You

Skills and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • Experience in:
    • Statistical and/or computational approaches
    • Large-scale data analysis
    • Genetic analyses
    • Genetic epidemiology

Communication skills

Candidates must be able to:

  • Present research progress and outcomes
  • Communicate complex information (verbally, in writing, electronically)
  • Make presentations at conferences and other events

Qualifications (minimum requirements)

  • Graduate Research Assistant

    • First degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in related field
  • Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow

    • Relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent qualification/experience

For Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Grade F)

  • An internationally recognised researcher
  • Proven high impact publications
  • Sufficient specialist knowledge to develop research programmes and methodologies
