Graduate Database Administrator (DBA) with Oracle/SQL Specialism

About the Role

Express Recruitment partners with a leading Database Management Consultancy to hire a self-motivated, hardworking, and trustworthy Graduate—with an IT/tech-based degree—to bolster their team of 20+ Senior DBAs.

This role offers:

  • A structured path for career progression and rapid salary growth (increase of at least £10k within the first 12 months)

  • Financial support for Oracle/SQL certifications to attain Senior DBA status
  • Hands-on learning under Senior Database Administrators in a collaborative environment

Key responsibilities include:

  • Shadowing Senior DBAs to understand database processes, start/stop instructions and communication protocols
  • Gaining an appreciation of current fellowship grades and how decisions impact IT services

Shift Pattern (3 Week Rotation)

  • Week 1: 6:30pm–7:30am (13h) (Mon–Wed)
  • Week 2: 7:30am–6:30pm (11h) (Tue–Thu)
  • Week 3: 6:30pm–7:30am (13h) (Fri–Sun)

Key Responsibilities

The role will see you support and expand your technical expertise by:

  • Monitoring and responding to database issues within agreed SLA timelines
  • Managing the Application Dashboard Manager to identify and act on support tickets
  • Communicating professionally with clients via phone and email to resolve issues
  • Completing scheduled daily workloads (set by senior DBAs)
  • Escalating technical issues to Senior DBAs for complex resolution
  • Documenting and maintaining updates in SharePoint knowledge base
  • Shadowing Senior Oracle/SQL DBAs to aid knowledge transfer
  • Administrative tasks: creating CRM cases, updating client-specific incident records

  • Degree qualification in:
    • Computer Science
    • Computing
    • Information Technology (IT-related field)
  • Enthusiastic attitude towards training and development
  • Commitment to shift patterns (onsite, office-based in Edinburgh)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle pressured deadlines and work independently under guidance

Location & Employment Terms

Job Location: Edinburgh, UK ( café & fresh salads on-site)

Salary: £27,552 starter + regular reviews

Hours & Pattern: 3-day night/day shifts on a 3-week rotating rota
