Opportunity: Graduate Database Administrator (DBA) & Oracle/SQL Database Support Consultant

Introduction

Express Recruitment is pleased to partner with a leading Database Management Consultancy, offering premium Oracle & SQL Server support, design, and development services for a global client base.

The Opportunity

Our client—a respected consultancy with over 25 DBAs—seeks a self-motivated Graduate with an IT/tech-related degree to grow their team.

This role provides a clear career progression pathway with flexible salary growth, starting at £27,552 (with opportunities to advance). Notable benefits include:

Key Details

  • Location: fully office-based, Edinburgh (secure, modern premises)
  • Shift Pattern: 3-day weekly rota (3 weeks rotating)
    • Week 1: 6:30pm – 7:30am (Mon–Wed)
    • Week 2: 7:30am – 6:30pm (Tue–Thu)
    • Week 3: 6:30pm – 7:30am (Fri–Sun)
  • Salary: £27,552 (starting) + regular reviews
  • Hours: Full-time, permanent
  • Industry: Database Support, Technical Consulting

Responsibilities

Critical operational tasks and support duties include:

  • Ticket Management:
    • Check emails with urgency, ensuring SLA compliance for database-end user issues.
    • Monitor Application Dashboard Manager for new support tickets.
    • Create/close cases in CRM system for client-specific incidents.
  • End-User Support:
    • Communicate professionally via phone/email with clients.
  • Database Maintenance:
    • Complete scheduled workloads from prior shift DBAs.
    • Perform daily checks during night shifts, briefing colleagues on findings.
    • Handle 1st-line fixes for database issues (escalate complex cases to Senior DBAs).
  • Technical Learning & Skill Development:
    • Shadow Senior DBAs to improve knowledge.
    • Train in technical tasks: restore backups, disaster recovery, migrations, patching, tuning, and cloud hosting.
    • Maintain/upgrade SharePoint Knowledge Base.

Requirements

Degree & Attitude

  • Degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, IT, Computing).
  • Proven adaptability, eagerness to learn, and patience for hands-on training.

Soft Skills & Professionalism

  • Can-do attitude with enthusiasm for development.
  • Fully able to follow shift patterns/duty schedules.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and use initiative.

Working Conditions

  • Security-minded role: fully office-based in Edinburgh-based facilities.
  • Requires commitment to shift rotas (night/day shifts included).
