Graduate Structural Engineer
Graduate Structural Engineer
Location: Orpington or London (hybrid)
Hours: 35 per week
As a Graduate Structural Engineer, you'll begin your professional journey alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on exposure to the design and delivery of buildings and infrastructure across the UK. In this role, you'll develop your skills, confidence, and professional judgement from day one. This is an opportunity to build strong foundations for your career in a supportive team that values curiosity, integrity, and continuous learning while supporting your progression towards chartership.
The Role
To provide support to the team in day-to-day activities and client services through structural engineering design and drafting. You will learn 'on the job' by shadowing more senior members of the group and taking responsibility for day-to-day tasks based on your experience and confidence, with suitable support and training from the wider team. You'll also enhance your understanding of structural and civil engineering and its broader role in construction.
What You’ll Be Doing
To assist and support in the following areas:
- Assist in the preparation of technical calculations and modelling.
- Assist in the production of technical design drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Support the preparation of risk assessments.
- Liaise with the Design Team to gather necessary information for task completion.
- Assist in drafting RIBA design stage reports.
- Shadow senior team members in project team meetings.
- Assist in the technical review of third-party design information.
- Participate in in-house project reviews and provide input as required.
- Shadow senior members on site surveys and assist in preparing resultant reports.
- Undertake admin/clerical tasks related to daily project administration under senior guidance.
- Assist in maintaining project filing to ensure alignment with company processes.
- Maintain a high standard of quality in all delivered outputs.

Qualifications
- Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (BEng, BEng(hons), BSc, etc.).
- Current UK driving license and access to transport would be advantageous.
Knowledge
- Understanding of building construction.
- Experience in concrete frame design and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) modelling.
- Awareness of the role and duties of a Structural/Civil Engineer.
- Awareness of the composition of a Design Team and their respective roles/duties.
Skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
- Good people skills and collaboration.
- Basic knowledge of construction practices and empathy for design perspectives.
- Curious with a commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written communication skills and experience writing technical reports.
- Proficient basic Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.).
- Awareness of industry-standard modelling software (TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer, Revit, etc.).
