Graduate Teaching Assistant

A secondary school in Southwark is seeking Graduate Teaching Assistants to join its team on a permanent basis from September 2026.

This Graduate Teaching Assistant opportunity is ideal for graduates considering teacher training, a PGCE, School Direct or a future career in education. The school offers excellent classroom experience, mentoring and exposure to teaching and learning, making it a strong foundation for aspiring teachers, educational psychologists, SEND professionals and pastoral leaders.

Graduate Teaching Assistants work closely with teachers and support staff to help students achieve their full potential. You will support learning in lessons, work with small groups and provide additional academic and pastoral support where required.

Graduate Teaching Assistant Responsibilities

  • Support students in lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Work with individual students and small intervention groups
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and lesson preparation
  • Support students with SEND and additional learning needs
  • Encourage student engagement, confidence and academic progress
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment

Graduate Teaching Assistant Requirements

  • Degree in any subject
  • Interest in education, teacher training or working with young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive, proactive and resilient approach
  • Ability to build effective relationships with students and staff
