The Role
We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for biodiversity, wildlife, and nature recovery — someone who wants to make a visible difference across Warwick District’s parks, open spaces, wildlife sites, woodlands, and Local Nature Reserves.
The successful candidate will bring strong ecological and grounds maintenance expertise, with the ability to deliver biodiversity projects, manage budgets and contracts, work with partners and contractors, and inspire others to value and protect the natural environment.
Applicants should understand the urgency of the ecological emergency and be motivated to champion wildlife, enhance habitats, support nature recovery targets, and help create healthier, better-connected green spaces for people and nature.

Main Responsibilities
- Implement a range of strategies and plans through effective planning and use of technical expertise and experience, ensuring they complement the ongoing maintenance of parks and open spaces.
- Be responsible for the implementation of the Council's Biodiversity Action Programme throughout the district, balanced with the management and development of more formal open spaces and parks.
- Assist in the strategic development and management of all wildlife sites, including woodlands and Local Nature Reserves, in line with the corporate strategies, service plans, team operational plans, and management plans.
- Lead on specific projects with other partner organisations, forging closer working relationships with voluntary groups, “friends of” groups, Town and Parish Councils, Community Forums, other bodies, and agencies, to contribute to the development of parks and open spaces.
- Exercise accurate budgetary control for allocated budgets, raising orders, verifying contract claims, agreeing deductions where appropriate, and paying invoices, using contract management/financial systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified to at least degree level or equivalent with extensive knowledge of integrating ecological and grounds maintenance to increase biodiversity.
- Working with a range of partners to bring ecological improvements through working alongside a wide range of partners, including residents, volunteers, local groups, and other bodies.
Working Hours and Conditions
- 37 hours per week
- Fixed-Term Contract/Secondment until the 7th July 2027
- The intention is for the postholder to work predominately from home; however, it is a requirement to attend our offices or sites within Warwick District as required. Any costs for travel from home to the office will be met by the successful candidate. However, hybrid and office working is also available.
