Salary: Up to £80,000 + Bonus & Benefits
We're supporting a growing renewable energy developer in the search for an experienced Grid Connections Manager to take ownership of grid connection strategy and delivery across an exciting portfolio of Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and co-located data centre projects.
This is a senior technical position where you'll lead all aspects of the grid connection process—from feasibility and applications through to energisation—working closely with NESO, National Grid, DNOs, IDNOs and Independent Connection Providers (ICPs).

The Opportunity
As Grid Connections Manager, you'll be responsible for developing and delivering the grid connection strategy across a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects.
Working alongside the Development team, you'll manage the full lifecycle of transmission and distribution connections, oversee ICP procurement and delivery, support the adoption of networks into the company's IDNO business and provide technical expertise throughout project development.
You'll also play a key role in navigating the UK's evolving grid connections landscape, ensuring projects remain aligned with NESO reforms and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the grid connection strategy across a portfolio of Solar PV, BESS and data centre developments.
- Assess grid capacity and identify the most suitable connection solutions for new and existing sites.
- Manage the full connection application process, from feasibility studies through to energisation.
- Submit, negotiate and manage connection offers with NESO, National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
- Monitor changes to the UK Grid Connections Reform programme, including gate processes and queue management, ensuring projects remain compliant and commercially viable.
- Manage the adoption of new electrical networks into the company's regulated IDNO business, coordinating with DNOs and internal stakeholders.
- Tender, procure and manage Independent Connection Provider (ICP) contracts, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget.
- Take ownership of grid connection budgets, CapEx, connection charges, securities and payment milestones.
- Work closely with engineering consultants, contractors and developers to ensure connection milestones are incorporated into project programmes.
- Act as the primary technical and commercial point of contact with NESO, NGET, DNOs, ICPs and other key industry stakeholders.
- Provide regular reporting on programme progress, risks and connection status to senior leadership and investors.
- Ensure compliance with Grid Code, Distribution Code, G99/G100 requirements and all relevant engineering standards.

About You
We're looking for someone with strong technical knowledge of the UK electricity network and a proven track record of delivering grid connections for renewable energy projects.

You'll ideally have:
- At least five years' experience managing grid connections within the UK energy sector.
- Experience delivering transmission and/or distribution connections through to energisation.
- Strong knowledge of Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage (BESS) or wider renewable energy developments.
- Experience managing connection applications with NESO, National Grid and DNOs.
- A good understanding of the UK's Grid Connections Reform programme and evolving connection processes.
- Experience managing ICP contracts and connection delivery programmes.
- Budget management experience, including CapEx, connection charges and payment milestones.
- Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be highly advantageous:
- IDNO adoption processes.
- Independent Connection Providers (ICPs).
- G99, G100 and ENA engineering recommendations.
- Grid Code and Distribution Code compliance.
- HV substations and power systems.
- DIgSILENT, PSS®E or other power system modelling software.
- Data centre or large industrial connections.
