Grid Engineer - Solar & BESS

Climate17 is working with a leading renewable energy business to recruit a Grid Engineer to support the delivery of utility-scale renewable energy and battery energy storage projects across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing engineering team, playing a key role in the design, delivery and energisation of grid connections for large-scale renewable energy infrastructure. Working across the full project lifecycle, you'll provide technical expertise from early-stage development through to commissioning and operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery of grid connection activities for utility-scale renewable energy and battery energy storage projects.
  • Develop and review electrical specifications, designs and supporting documentation for substations and grid connection infrastructure.
  • Manage the design process with Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), ensuring compliance with DNO requirements, connection agreements and relevant industry standards.
  • Act as the primary engineering interface with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Transmission System Operators (TSOs), ICPs and other external stakeholders.
  • Review and approve electrical equipment selection to ensure projects meet Grid Code requirements and deliver technically robust, cost-effective solutions.
  • Coordinate grid-related engineering activities across multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring milestones are achieved in line with programme requirements.
  • Provide technical support during project development, tendering and pre-construction phases, helping to identify risks and optimise connection strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ICPs, network operators and specialist subcontractors to support successful project delivery.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of grid studies, commissioning documentation and energisation plans, ensuring projects are delivered safely and on schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout construction, commissioning and handover, supporting contractors and internal teams to resolve engineering challenges.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, grid connection processes and delivery methodologies across the business.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards and company health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
