Ground Investigation Consultant

About the Role

As a Ground Investigation Consultant, you will be an integral part of our UK-wide Site Evaluation and Restoration team, contributing to a broad range of ground investigation projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and coordinating supply chain activities and procurement.
  • Undertaking field-based work across the UK.
  • Supervising ground investigations and associated site activities, with a focus on health and safety.
  • Collecting site characterisation data including soil, rock and groundwater samples.
  • Logging samples in line with British Standards and conducting in-situ field testing.
  • Managing geo-environmental sample collection, documentation and laboratory scheduling.
  • Compiling site data for Factual Ground Investigation Reports.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project outcomes.
  • Producing high-quality project outputs, including reports, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Building strong relationships with Project Managers, clients and stakeholders, while ensuring project compliance with Arcadis standards, legislation and industry best practices.

This role focuses primarily on projects in the infrastructure sector, including rail, highways and waterways.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • A BSc degree (or higher) in:
    • Geology
    • Environmental Geoscience
    • Environmental Science
    • A related Earth Science discipline
  • Experience working on site, including supervising drilling contractors.
  • Minimum 12 months’ experience delivering:
    • Geo-environmental projects
    • Geotechnical and/or contaminated land investigations
  • Understanding of hazards, risk management and health and safety requirements in ground investigations.
  • Strong report-writing skills, with experience preparing Factual Ground Investigation Reports.
  • Working towards professional membership and chartership with a relevant professional body.

  • SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
  • Experience within the rail and/or highways sectors.
