Street Scene Seasonal Worker
Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–3:30pm Friday: 7:30am–3:00pm Contract: until 31 October 2026

In the Environment & Fleet team, we maintain public spaces, parks (like Saltwell and Watergate), green areas, countryside landscapes, and manage the Council’s vehicles.
As a Seasonal Street Scene Worker, you’ll help protect and enhance Gateshead’s shared spaces by contributing to street cleansing, refuse collection, grounds maintenance, and outdoor labour tasks—all with a noticeable impact on the community.
Responsibilities
Street Scene Work (Base Role)
- Manual sweeping, litter/leaf removal, and weed elimination in public areas.
- Emptying/public litter bin collection.
- Mowing grass in pedestrian public spaces.
- Ground maintenance tasks: strimming, hedge trimming, pruning, planting, and assisting grounds teams.
- General labour support (including use and operation of heavy tools).
- Household/commercial waste and bulk waste collection within the borough.
- Public-facing communication and safety coordination.
- Additional duties as required.

Ride-On Grass Cutter Responsibilities (Additional to Base Role)
- Daily inspection, maintenance, and defect reporting of ride-on grass-cutting machinery.
Requirements
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and utilise initiative.
- Strong attention to detail, delivering consistent high-standard outcomes.
- Effective teamplayer with adaptability to diverse tasks.
- Clear communication skills (both internally and with the public).
- Customer-focused with a friendly, professional demeanour.
- Full driver’s licence required for ride-on roles.
