As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operations Supervisor to become a key member of our leadership team.

This isn't a role for someone who simply checks work has been completed.

Salary

£35,360 – £36,400 per year (Based on 40 hour weeks)

Hours

40–45 hours per week | Monday to Friday

About the Role

Your number one responsibility will be our people.

Working alongside the Department Lead and Operations Coordinator, you'll help lead the day-to-day operations of our Grounds Maintenance department, supporting over 25 operatives across 8+ operational teams.

You'll spend the majority of your time out on sites, working hands on with our teams, coaching staff, driving quality, delivering training, resolving issues, and ensuring every team consistently delivers work to the highest standard.

You'll also play an important role in planning workloads, allocating resources, and ensuring contracts run efficiently and safely.

This is a highly visible leadership role requiring someone who enjoys being out with the teams, setting expectations, developing people, and creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and support multiple Grounds Maintenance Teams.
  • Build positive working relationships and develop a culture of professionalism, accountability, and pride.
  • Carry out regular quality inspections and team audits.
  • Ensure company standards and client expectations are consistently achieved.
  • Coach, mentor and develop employees through regular feedback and practical support.
  • Deliver inductions, onboarding programmes, refresher training, toolbox talks and practical workshops.
  • Ensure Health & Safety legislation and company procedures are followed at all times.
  • Investigate issues, implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage performance professionally, fairly and consistently.
  • Work closely with the management team to plan labour resources, workloads and daily schedules.
  • Support the Department Lead and Operations Coordinator with the day-to-day running of the department.
  • Step into an operational leadership role during periods of absence, ensuring contracts continue to run effectively.
  • Monitor plant, machinery and equipment, ensuring it is safe, compliant and well maintained.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, resolving issues quickly and professionally.
  • Promote a positive working environment where teams are encouraged to grow and succeed.

About You

You'll be an experienced leader within the commercial Grounds Maintenance industry who thrives on developing people and raising standards.

You'll be someone who:

Essential Experience

You will have significant experience supervising or managing teams within the commercial Grounds Maintenance industry together with a thorough understanding of:

  • Commercial Grounds Maintenance operations.
  • Grass cutting, hedge maintenance, shrub maintenance and horticultural best practice.
  • Grounds Maintenance machinery, plant and equipment.
  • Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Staff management, coaching and performance development.
  • Delivering practical training, inductions, refresher training and toolbox talks.
  • Planning workloads and allocating resources effectively.
  • Working to KPIs and performance targets.
  • A full UK Driving Licence is essential.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • PA1 & PA6 Herbicide Certificates.
  • Trailer Towing Experience.
  • First Aid at Work Qualification.
  • LANTRA or NPTC qualifications.
  • Experience working on commercial Grounds Maintenance contracts.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or similar Health & Safety qualification (desirable but not essential).

Working Hours

Monday to Friday

40–45 hours per week.

Overtime Rates

  • Time & ¼ – Weekdays (after 40 hours)

  • Becoming involved in contract mobilisation, estimating, operational planning and wider business improvement initiatives.

Candidates with previous experience in landscaping operations, estimating, contract management or project delivery are encouraged to highlight this within their application.
