Groundworks Operations & Business Development Manager
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 + Company Vehicle + Performance Bonus
PDQ Kerb Laying & Groundworks is an expanding South Coast groundworks business, providing fully managed groundworks delivery gangs to:
<ul> <li>Civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, roads & sewers projects</li> <li>Residential development projects</li> </ul>Based in Southampton, the business operates across Hampshire, Sussex, and Surrey. This is not a desk-based role.
We are seeking an experienced Groundworks Operations & Business Development Manager to support our next stage of growth by:
- Boosting our client base
- Ensuring project delivery teams remain safe, efficient, and compliant.
The Role
- Manage & coordinate groundworks delivery gangs across multiple projects
- Liaise with clients, Contracts Managers, and Site Teams
- Handle resource planning and labour allocation
- Recruitment & onboarding of operatives
- Conduct site visits & quality monitoring
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements
- Develop relationships with new and existing clients
- Identify business opportunities, including framework deals
- Support business growth & expansion plans

Essential Requirements
<details> <summary><strong>● Key Experience & Background</strong></summary>- Minimum 10 years’ experience in groundworks, civil engineering, or utilities
- Prior roles as Contracts Manager, Operations Manager, Site Manager, or General Foreman
- Deep technical knowledge of:
- Drainage & deep drainage
- Roads & sewers
- Utilities & infrastructure projects
- Proven ability to multitask across multiple gangs and projects
- Exceptional communication and organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence (essential for fieldwork)
Highly Desirable
<details> <summary>Ideal Extras:</summary>- Existing industry network with regional contractors, developers, and infrastructure firms
- Experience win business via direct contacts
- SMSTS certification
- Familiarity with Constructionline, CHAS, and SSIP compliance
