Group 1 Jaguar Land Rover Sidcup - Service Technician Apprenticeship
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Service Technician apprentice, working with vehicles that use some of the most advanced technologies in the world. As a team member in our prestigious retailer, you will be involved in all aspects of vehicle maintenance, from routine services to complex diagnostics and repairs.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
Responsibilities
Our apprenticeship is geared toward training the next generation of fully-fledged Service Technicians/Mechanics. Service Technicians/Mechanics service and repair light vehicles such as cars up to 3.5 tonnes. Service Technicians/Mechanics are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features.
The duties of a Service Technician/Mechanic may include:
- Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
- Advising the Service Receptionists about required repairs.
- Producing time estimates.
- Maintaining repair and service records.
Requirements
We are looking for people with an interest in engineering and technology to thrive in this role. While full technical training will be provided, desired skills include problem solving, attention to detail and an aptitude for applied logic.

Essential qualifications:
- GCSE in: English (grade 4/C), Math's (grade 4/C), Two other subjects (grade 4/C)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

English and maths guidance from the government changed on 11th February 2025. What you'll learn Course contents:
- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
- Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
- Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
- Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
- Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
- Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
- Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
- Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
- Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
- Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
- Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
- Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
- Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Training schedule: Training will be delivered using a combination of virtual classroom remote learning and face-to-face block release weeks at our state-of-the-art training centre. Successful applicants must be prepared to travel to the Jaguar Land Rover Academy in Leamington Spa to complete their apprenticeship training. All training-related costs are fully covered as part of the programme, including travel, accommodation, and meals. In the workplace, your personal, dedicated mentor will support your continued learning as you apply the skills and knowledge you have gained through the remote sessions and at the Jaguar Land Rover Academy. This apprenticeship combines off-the-job training with on-the-job learning, and you will be supported every step of the way. On successful completion of the three-year programme, you will receive the following:
- Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle)
- Certificate in Automotive Refrigerant Handling
- JLR specific certifications

This is the grounding for your future development within the network and our Learner Management System. Excellence will guide you through your short-term, medium-term, and long-term career path.
