Director of Financial Control
The Director of Financial Control will oversee the financial operations, ensuring robust financial management, financial controls, and regulatory compliance. This role is ideal for a strong Financial Controller looking to make the step into a Finance Directorship in the next few years.

Our client is a large, complex, and highly respected organization undergoing a significant period of transformation, investment, and change. With a strong focus on governance, operational excellence, and sustainable growth, they are seeking an exceptional finance leader to join the executive finance team as Group Head of Financial Control.
This is a high-profile leadership role reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, offering broad responsibility across financial control, reporting, governance, treasury, tax, and sustainability reporting. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting organizational transformation while maintaining best-in-class financial stewardship.
Description
The Director of Financial Control will provide strategic leadership for financial integrity, governance, and reporting across the organization.
Leading a multidisciplinary team of circa 20 professionals, you will be responsible for ensuring robust accounting, reporting, tax, treasury, and control frameworks are in place to support executive decision-making, regulatory compliance, and long-term organizational objectives.
Operating within a complex and evolving environment, you will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, the executive leadership team, and governance committees while driving continuous improvement across finance processes, controls, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Lead the Financial Control function across accounting, financial reporting, consolidation, treasury, tax, and sustainability reporting.
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of the balance sheet, profit and loss account, and wider financial reporting framework.
- Own the Group financial control environment, embedding strong governance, risk management, and assurance processes.
- Oversee statutory reporting, external disclosures, and audit activity, maintaining strong relationships with auditors and regulatory stakeholders.
- Provide leadership across treasury, liquidity management, and tax compliance activities.
- Chair financial governance forums and drive a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Act as a key finance leader within wider transformation programs, ensuring controls, reporting, and governance are embedded within future operating models and technology solutions.
- Develop and mentor a high-performing finance team, creating strong succession plans and future leadership capability.
Profile
We are seeking an accomplished finance leader with deep technical expertise and the ability to operate effectively within complex, stakeholder-rich environments. You will have been through a Finance Transformation journey in previous roles and be able to help clarify what good looks like while creating manageable steps to get there.

You Will Bring
- ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification, ideally gained within audit before progressing into industry leadership roles.
- Significant experience in Financial Control, Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting, or wider Finance Leadership positions.
- A strong track record of operating within large-scale transformation environments while maintaining robust governance and controls.
- Experience across complex organizations, with exposure to highly regulated environments considered advantageous.
- Strong technical knowledge spanning reporting, accounting standards, treasury, tax, and financial controls.
- Demonstrable experience engaging with Executive Teams, Boards, Audit Committees, and senior stakeholders.
- Experience leading sizeable finance teams and developing future leadership talent.
- Outstanding leadership and communication skills.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement capability across diverse and complex environments.
- The ability to balance strategic priorities with operational delivery.
- Likely sector experience includes (but is not limited to) Banking, Insurance, Property, Infrastructure, Listed businesses.
