The Director of Financial Control will oversee financial operations, ensuring robust financial management, financial controls, and regulatory compliance. This role is ideal for a strong Financial Controller looking to progress into a Finance Directorship within the next few years.
Role Overview
Our client, a large and highly respected organisation in a period of transformation, investment, and change, seeks an exceptional finance leader to join the executive finance team as Group Head of Financial Control.
This is a high-profile leadership role, reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, covering:
- Financial control
- Reporting
- Governance
- Treasury
- Tax
- Sustainability reporting
The successful candidate will drive financial stewardship, support the organisation’s transformation, and uphold best-in-class financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic leadership for financial integrity, governance, and reporting.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team (approx. 20 professionals) to ensure robust frameworks in accounting, financial reporting, tax, treasury, and controls.
- Trusteed advisor to senior stakeholders, including the executive leadership team and governance committees.
- Focus on continuous improvement across finance processes, controls, and reporting.

- Oversee financial control function across accounting, reporting, consolidation, treasury, tax, and sustainability reporting.
- Maintain integrity, accuracy, and completeness of the balance sheet and profit & loss account.
- Embed governance, risk management, and assurance processes within the group financial controls environment.
- Ensure compliance with statutory reporting, external disclosures, and audit activity.
- Chair financial governance forums to drive transparency and accountability.
- Lead treasury, liquidity management, and tax compliance activities.
- Embed financial controls within wider transformation programs and technology solutions.
- Develop and mentor a high-performing finance team.
Profile
We seek an accomplished finance leader with:
- A professional qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA) gained in audit before progressing into leadership roles.
- Substantial experience in Financial Control, Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting, or Finance Leadership.
- A track record of operating within large-scale transformation environments while maintaining governance and controls.
- Exposure to highly regulated environments, working across complex organisations (e.g., Banking, Insurance, Property, Infrastructure, or Listed businesses).
- Technical expertise spanning reporting, accounting standards, treasury, tax, and financial controls.
- Experience with Executive Teams, Boards, Audit Committees, and senior stakeholders.
- Leadership experience in managing teams and talent development.

Job Offer
- Competitive salary: £160,000 – £180,000 per annum.
