We’re seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join our Group Legal Team at Royal London.
As the trusted advisor to our Group People function, you’ll shape and deliver strategic employment law support across the business while working closely with senior stakeholders, including the Group People Director, on high-impact projects and critical business matters.
About the Role
This is a senior legal role focusing on:
- Acting as the legal advisor to the Group People Team, supporting contentious and non-contentious matters, corporate transactions, and high-level organisational transformations.
- Providing expert employment law advice, including on complex grievances, tribunal claims, and employment-related risks.
- Leading on employment-related aspects of business projects, delivering pragmatic and proactive solutions.
- Managing and evaluating external legal advice to ensure it is cost-effective, commercially relevant, and actionable.
- Collaborating with senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted business partner, and influencing decisions across the group.
- Improving legal processes, tools, and knowledge-sharing within the wider Group Legal Team.
- Reporting to the Legal Director within an environment that includes commercial, regulatory, pensions, and corporate lawyers.

Responsibilities
- Deliver expert-level employment law advice on contentious and non-contentious issues, including corporate deals, employment tribunal claims, and high-level grievances.
- Independently lead employment-related projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and legal risk minimisation.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the group to implement legal solutions in a dynamic environment.
- Oversee contract management, negotiation, and drafting to reflect current legal trends and business needs.
- Contribute to shaping employment legislation and transition strategies in alignment with Royal London’s Purpose-aligned goals.
- Engage with internal and external legal experts, ensuring clarity and cost-effective decision-making.
- Advocate for continuous improvement of legal workflows, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a qualified employment lawyer with a well-established track record in delivering independent, solutions-focused advice on complex matters.
- Experience navigating high-stakes, contentious issues in regulated financial or corporate environments.
- Strong track record of managing relationships with C-level executives, HR leaders, and other senior stakeholders to gain influence and support.
- Proven skills in drafting, editing, and negotiating commercial contracts and policies.
- Familiarity with workplace policies, regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, data privacy, fairness laws), and employment tribunal processes.
- Preference or experience within the financial services sector or similar regulated environment.
- In-house legal experience desirable to understand business operations alongside legal compliance.
- Demonstrated judgement, emotional intelligence, and resilience in fast-paced environments, combined with proactive and adaptable problem-solving.
