Group Finance Director – Arqiva

About the Role

Hackajob is collaborating with Arqiva to connect them with exceptional professionals for this strategic leadership position. Shape and drive the vision for our financial accounting, reporting, controls, and tax strategy, playing a pivotal role in delivering outstanding financial outcomes for Arqiva.

As the Group Finance Director, you’ll:

  • Set the strategic direction, elevate financial governance, and empower teams to deliver a high-performance culture.
  • Influence decision-making at the highest level and ensure financial excellence.
  • Report directly to the CFO, requiring 2-3 times-per-week travel between our Crawley Court (Winchester) and Newman Street (London) offices.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Financial Governance

  • Set and lead the execution of the vision and strategy for finance operations.
  • Act as the senior point of contact for finance functions, liaising with the CFO and key stakeholders.
  • Provide financial insights to senior leadership, informing strategic decisions.
  • Support business performance in meeting targets and long-term business plans.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting for Arqiva and its subsidiaries.
  • Comply with regulatory and accounting standards.
  • Plan and execute the reporting cycle to high-standards.
  • Lead compilation of the Annual Report, statutory accounts, and regulatory filings.
  • Prepare audit documentation and participate in the Audit & Risk Committee, engaging effectively with the Audit Chair and stakeholders.

Investor Relations & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with the CFO and Investor Relations to manage market expectations and communicate Group performance.
  • Support annual/quarterly results communications, investor roadshows, and regulatory interactions.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, regulators, and financial stakeholders.

Operational Excellence & Efficiency

  • Identify operating model improvements, process automation, and best practices in governance/reporting, collaborating with the Head of Finance Transformation.
  • Develop an enterprise-grade financial control framework, appropriate for a publicly listed business with complex financial instruments.
  • Align with Directors of Business Finance and Corporate Finance, alongside financial controllers, to ensure a robust control environment.

Data Strategy & Governance

  • Define and drive the end-to-end finance data strategy, ensuring alignment with regulatory needs and strategic objectives.
  • Establish and operate a Finance data lake, prioritising scalability, traceability, and integration with enterprise architecture.
  • Design enterprise-grade data models and semantic layers for analytics, reporting, and operational needs.
  • Implement data governance standards (policies, stewardship, and enforcement).
  • Collaborate with Finance, Audit, and Technology leaders to optimise data strategies.
  • Work with Directors of Finance to establish KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics for data quality and control effectiveness.

Tax Strategy & Compliance

  • Oversee Group-wide tax planning, compliance, and reporting, ensuring timely filings and payments.
  • Provide strategic tax advisory (especially for M&A/restructuring transactions) alongside the Head of Tax.
  • Manage tax risk mitigation in alignment with Arqiva’s risk policies.

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Champion high-performance culture, role-modelling Arqiva’s values and goals.
  • Develop team capabilities, focusing on skills growth and sustainable outcomes.
  • Self-direct and task-manage with integrity, credibility, and respect.

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experienced finance leader in a comparable large, complex business.
  • Broad finance expertise covering:
    • Financial accounting & reporting
    • Financial controls & data management
    • Tax strategy and compliance
  • Track record of operating a high-quality, efficient finance function and driving transformation initiatives.
  • Experience in a product-driven, capital-intensive, and/or regulated industry.
  • Qualifications or equivalent experience (e.g., ACCA, CIMA).
  • Accountable, agile, and strategic thinker with decision-making courage.

Critical Leadership Attributes

  • Ability to create followership across the organisation.
  • Willingness to bring outside perspectives, drive innovation, and challenge the status quo.
  • Proven technical credibility and track record of executing multi-year functional strategies.
