Group Financial Accountant
Location: Whitley, DN14 0HR | Hybrid working available
About the Role
We are recruiting a Group Financial Accountant to join our Group Finance Team, located in Whitley (DN14 0HR), with the option for flexible hybrid working.
This role involves the preparation of group management accounts, consolidation, financial reporting, and performance analysis to support key decision-making and drive business performance.
Key Responsibilities

Consolidation & Reporting:
- Prepare monthly consolidated accounts, working closely with the wider Group Finance Team
- Own the preparation of the monthly Group Management Accounts pack, including updates for reports, variance analyses, and supporting commentary to meet corporate deadlines
- Review regional performance vs. forecast for senior management and the Board, identifying key drivers of Group performance

Financial Processes & Analysis:
- Consolidate weekly regional short-term cash forecasts (STCF): produce Group summaries and continue to improve the process
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting, including template creation/maintenance and assistance with submissions from regional teams
- Coordinate monthly calls with international finance teams, ensuring alignment and consistency

Ad-Hoc & Support Tasks:
- Respond to queries from internal/external stakeholders (Senior Management, Board, banking syndicate, etc.) and produce ad-hoc reports
- Provide financial modelling, planning & analysis (e.g., Power BI/Power Pivot) as required
- Assist in year-end consolidation and statutory accounts preparation, as directed by Senior Finance Partner/Director

Team Collaboration & Process Improvement:
- Work with the Group Finance team to refine modelling, reporting, and financial controls
- Contribute to process optimisation, especially around consolidation and forecasting efficiency

- Ownership of financial packs for stakeholders (regional/local and executive-level)
- Annual budgeting and forecasting, ensuring accuracy and stakeholder buy-in
- Variety of reporting tools (Excel, Power BI, MFA/VLM/NX) with an eye for complex formulae and automation
- Rigorous attention to detail, including regional var analysis vs. budget/forecast
- A pro-active voice in data-driven decision-making with curiosity about commercial and operational factors
Qualifications & Skills
Technical & Experience Requirements
- Fully qualified accountant (preferably ICAEW)
- A+ Excel proficiency (pivot tables, formulas, LOOKUP/INDEX/MATCH, macros, etc.)
- Hands-on experience in consolidation and monthly reporting, including:
- MICROSOFT DAX, macros, and large-scale data management
- Ad-hoc financial troubled-supported requests from senior/exec stakeholders
- Strong accountancy **communication skills (written/oral) with proven ability to translate complex financials into clear insights
Key Competencies
- Strong analytical, intuitive, and intellectual senses (spotting commercial and operational variances)
- Exceptional delivery discipline, with a knack for resolving grey areas ⃝ Ability to ascertain commercial drivers from multiple data sets
- Unwavering work ethic with multi-tasking skills while maintaining focus on deadlines
- Relationship building with stakeholders at all levels from regions to Board/compliance
Desirable (Added Value)
- Experience in larger groups: with consolidation systems such as:
- Tagetik, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Sage Anexio, Hyperion Essbase or Epicor ERP
- Familiarity with Power BI and leveraging AI/ML to improve data insights and workflows
- Basic knowledge of private-sector IFRS standards
