Group Financial Accountant
Group Financial Accountant
Location: Hatfield (Hybrid – 3 days in the office)
Salary: Circa £55,000 – £58,000
A multisite hospitality/retail business requires a Group Financial Accountant (ACA/ICAEW) on a permanent basis.

Reporting Structure
- Reports to: Group Financial Reporting Manager
Purpose of the Role
The Group Financial Accountant supports the Group Financial Reporting Manager and Head of Group Accounting in ensuring the Group meets financial reporting, governance, and control requirements, including:
- Accurate and timely accounting for balance sheet and profit & loss (P&L) items below EBITDA
- Preparation of high-quality company accounts under IFRS/FRS101/European GAAP
- Supporting reporting obligations, including:
- Monthly, half-year, and full-year reporting cycles
- Audit readiness
- Robust financial controls
- Contributing to the integrity of Group’s monthly, half-year, and annual close processes in line with listed company requirements
- Assisting with producing a monthly balance sheet and P&L for the Group, compliant with IFRS
- Preparing for and assisting with the external audit
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
- Ownership of month-end close activities for:
- P&L lines below EBITDA
- Associated balance sheet accounts, including:
- Posting journals
- Preparing technical calculations
- Performing robust balance sheet reconciliations (to listed-company standards)
- Preparation of monthly Group balance sheet and P&L reporting, compliant with IFRS, supporting:
- Group consolidation
- Reporting timelines
- Preparing clear, well-evidenced balance sheet substantiation and commentary.

External & Statutory Reporting
- Preparation of statutory accounts under IFRS/FRS 101/European GAAP, ensuring consistency with externally reported numbers
- Coordination and preparation of statutory accounts across UK and European subsidiaries, ensuring:
- Compliance with local GAAP
- Alignment to Group accounting policies
- Timely delivery in line with Group reporting deadlines
- Preparation of:
- Group and subsidiary financial statement disclosures
- Supporting schedules and technical papers for:
- Interim and full-year reporting packs
Audit, Governance & Controls
- Acting as a key point of contact for the external audit, including:
- Preparation of audit deliverables
- Responding to audit queries
- Supporting technical accounting discussions
- Ensuring:
- Documentation, reconciliations, and controls are maintained to a standard appropriate for a listed company
- Ongoing development and embedding of strong:
- Financial controls
- Audit trails
- Review evidence
- Segregation of duties
- Assisting with:
- Accounting papers
- Technical accounting analysis relevant to listed entities

Ad-Hoc & Project Work
- Supporting of finance-led projects related to:
- Reporting improvements
- Systems enhancements
- Process standardisation
- IPO/listed-company readiness initiatives
- Providing analytical and technical support to the wider Group Finance team, as required
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- ACA qualified with 1–2 years post-qualification experience
- Technically strong with excellent knowledge of IFRS, including (but not limited to):
- IAS16
- IFRS18
- IFRS16
- IFRS3
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical matters clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, able to:
- Work independently or as part of a team
- Take full ownership of assigned projects
- Experience working in a regulated, well-controlled reporting environment, with a clear understanding of audit and governance expectations
- Experience with Dynamics 365 or another major ERP system (desirable)
- Proficiency in one or more additional languages (desirable but not mandatory):
- Spanish
- Italian
- German
- French
