ABOUT US When a five-year-old boy was blinded after a regular eye exam failed to spot a retinal detachment, his father made it his life’s work to help eye care professionals by revolutionising retinal imaging. Optos was founded by Douglas Anderson with the goal to make a patient-friendly device to capture a digital ultra-widefield image of the retina. Today, millions of patients around the world have benefited from optomap® retinal imaging. Acquired by Nikon Corporation in 2015, Optos now operates within the Nikon Healthcare division. The company recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and is recognised as a leading provider of advanced imaging devices that support a more complete approach to patient care. Optos generates approximately $300 million in revenue, employs around 650 people worldwide, and manufactures 60% of its products in the UK. ROLE SUMMARY We are currently looking for a talented and driven Group Financial Accountant to play a key role in our Group Finance team. Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller, you will support the timely and accurate preparation of group financial information and submissions to the parent company, Nikon Corporation. This role supports a range of Group accounting and compliance activities – including consolidation, reporting, internal controls, corporation tax, and transfer pricing – ensuring compliance with both Group and statutory requirements. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
