Group Financial Controller (Head of Finance)

Reporting to: CFO Salary: Circa £65,000 to £80,000 Location: Amersham (Hybrid – 3 days on-site)

We are working with a well-established multi-office professional services firm to appoint a hands-on Head of Finance who will drive day-to-day financial operations and play a pivotal role in its growth strategy.

This is a forward-thinking buy-and-build organisation with substantial ambitions to expand organically and through acquisition. The role sits at the core of this growth, offering significant influence to shape financial strategies while delivering tangible commercial impact.

Ideal candidates could be:

  • Established Finance Directors ready to step into a senior operational role.
  • Experienced Financial Controllers with growth potential at board-level.

The company focuses on calibre and strategic impact over rigid hierarchical structures.


The Package

  • Base salary: £65,000–£80,000 (BMI)
  • Performance-related discretionary bonus
  • 24 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Hybrid working: 2 days remote per week
  • Home base: Amersham with regular office visits (3 days/week required)

The Role & Responsibilities

Core Financial Oversight

  • Own reporting, forecasting, and management accounts
  • Handle cash flow analysis, budget reviews, and audit compliance
  • Develop decision-ready financial reporting standards
  • Partner with leadership on growth strategy and acquisition activity
  • Advise during due diligence (buy-and-build strategy)

Team & Operational Leadership

  • Lead and develop a small finance team
  • Drive process improvements and cost-saving initiatives
  • Manage month-end and year-end processes:
    • Management reports (unbilled WIP, billings, aged debtors)
    • VAT calculations and reconciliations
    • Audit liaison for statutory filings

Integrative & Strategic Contribution

  • Provide confidence to senior stakeholders, offering insightful challenges
  • Speak clearly with commercial leaders, balancing detail with big-picture vision
  • Ensure acquisitions are financially viable through meticulous due diligence and post-merger integration

Key Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Proven experience in:
    • Cash flow forecasting (variance analysis)
    • Acquisition due diligence in a buy-and-build context
    • Statutory accounts & annual audits
  • Industry alignment: Preferred in law, professional services, or regulated firms
