Group Financial Controller — Precision Engineering & Manufacturing

Location: Hybrid (split between sites in Somerset and Hampshire)

Requirements: ACA/ACCA Qualified (Practice/Audit background strongly preferred)

On behalf of a highly successful, privately owned precision engineering and manufacturing group, a confidential search is underway to identify an ambitious, hands-on Group Financial Controller.

Operating several advanced manufacturing business units across the South West and South Coast, the group delivers high-performance, critical engineering solutions to demanding global markets.

This newly created position serves as the key "right-hand" operational partner to the Group Finance Director. It represents an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious, technically sharp professional looking to make a visible, group-wide impact.

The Mandate

The incoming Group Financial Controller will step into an active, multi-site role, taking operational command of day-to-day group finance. The core mission is to modernise the group's financial systems, establish rigorous costing controls, and professionalise transactional workflows.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Group Consolidations & Audit: Manage complex multi-entity group consolidations (IFRS) and serve as the main, technically rigorous point of contact for external auditors.
  • ERP Modernisation: Standardise financial systems across the group by leading the rollout and implementation of the new ERP system.
  • Standard Costing & Margin Control: Shift local operations away from basic transactional bookkeeping by establishing robust standard costing models, bill of materials (BOM), and deep margin analysis.
  • Team Uplift & Support: Work alongside an exceptionally strong site Financial Controller while actively mentoring, coaching, and upskilling transactional staff across other facilities.

The Ideal Profile:

  • Fully Qualified (ACA / ACCA): A foundational background in professional practice/audit is highly preferred, giving the candidate a strong grasp of technical accounting and IFRS.
  • Manufacturing Experience: Direct exposure to manufacturing or engineering environments, with a strong, practical understanding of standard costing, inventory control, and factory-floor operations.
  • Systems Maverick: Experience with or leading multi-site ERP rollouts is highly desirable.
  • Dynamic & Collaborative: A resilient, proactive problem-solver who enjoys getting "into the weeds" of physical operations and working closely with local management teams.
  • Flexibility: Able to comfortably manage a hybrid routine split between sites in Somerset and Hampshire.
