Become A Group Fitness Coach at The Toning Ground
The Toning Ground is a women’s-only fitness studio specialising in small-group strength training, coaching and community. We have created a welcoming and supportive environment where women of all ages and fitness levels can feel comfortable, build confidence and become stronger. Our studios are different from traditional gyms. We focus on high-quality coaching, personal attention and helping every member progress at their own pace. Our sessions are structured, supportive and suitable for women at different stages of life, from complete beginners to experienced lifters. We are looking for a passionate and reliable Fitness Coach to join our growing team and deliver an exceptional experience to our members.
The Role
As a Fitness Coach at The Toning Ground, you will coach small-group strength and fitness sessions, support members with their technique and progression, and help create the friendly and encouraging atmosphere our studios are known for. You will be responsible for making sure every member feels welcomed, supported and appropriately challenged during each session. The role may include coaching strength training, conditioning, resistance-based fitness sessions and supporting women with different goals, abilities and life stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Coach engaging, safe and effective small-group fitness sessions.
- Teach and demonstrate strength-training exercises with clear instructions.
- Correct members’ technique and provide suitable exercise modifications.
- Support women of different ages, abilities and fitness levels.
- Help members build confidence with resistance training and gym equipment.
- Create a positive, inclusive and motivating studio environment.
- Get to know members and provide a personal, supportive coaching experience.
- Monitor member progress and encourage consistency.
- Prepare the studio and equipment before sessions.
- Keep the training area clean, organised and safe.
- Communicate professionally with members and the wider coaching team.
- Follow The Toning Ground’s coaching standards, session plans and procedures.
- Attend team meetings, training and development sessions when required.
- Support studio events, challenges and community activities where appropriate.

The Individual We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is passionate about helping women become stronger, healthier and more confident. The ideal candidate will be:
- Reliable, punctual and professional.
- Friendly, approachable and confident.
- Experienced in coaching group fitness or small-group training.
- Confident teaching strength-training exercises.
- Comfortable coaching women with different experience levels.
- Able to adapt exercises safely for individual needs.
- Supportive and encouraging without being intimidating.
- A strong communicator who can explain exercises clearly.
- Proactive and willing to contribute to the studio community.
- Organised and able to take responsibility for their sessions.
- Committed to continuing their development as a coach.
- A positive team member who supports other coaches and staff. Experience working with women through different stages of life, including beginners, postnatal women, perimenopausal or menopausal women, would be highly beneficial.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification or equivalent.
- Level 3 Personal Training qualification or equivalent.
- Experience coaching group exercise, small-group training or fitness classes.
- A good understanding of strength training, exercise technique and safe progression.
- Up-to-date First Aid qualification, or willingness to obtain one.
- Appropriate insurance and eligibility to work in the UK.
Desirable:
- Experience coaching in a women’s-only fitness environment.
- Pre- and postnatal fitness qualification.
- Experience supporting perimenopausal or menopausal women.
- Additional qualifications in strength and conditioning, mobility, Pilates or nutrition.
- Experience delivering member consultations or progress reviews.

Working Hours
The role will initially be part-time and may include a combination of:
- Early mornings.
- Daytime sessions.
- Evenings.
- Occasional weekends.
Applicants should provide clear details of their regular availability. There may be opportunities for additional coaching hours, personal training, member support and increased responsibility as the studio grows.
