Group Head of Sales – Europe

LOCATION: London (with regular travel to the rest of Europe)

REPORTS TO: Group Sales Director

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Regional Manager – DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and The Lakes Distillery Brand Ambassador – Europe

KEY COMMUNICATIONS WITH: Group CEO, Group Head of Sales – Asia and Middle East, Group Finance Director, Head Winemaker, UK Sales Team, Group Marketing Heads of Department


About the Role

This Group Head of Sales position will oversee the overall international sales strategy in Europe, with a focus on building luxury global wine and spirits distribution—particularly in the On-Trade sector and key relationships. The role ensures leadership of the European Sales Team, driving growth, market expansion, and brand equity for The Nyetimber Group.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement new business strategies, distributor relationships, and growth initiatives across ultra-premium On-Trade (restaurants, bars) and Off-Trade (retail, travel sales) channels.
  • Responsible for scaling brand awareness and premium market positioning in Europe and worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Brand Growth

  • Develop and execute the commercial strategy for Nyetimber and The Lakes Distillery across Europe.
  • Align with Group CEO & Group Sales Director to define long-term sales and distribution plans.
  • Drive sustainable growth in premium markets, supported by KPI frameworks (key performance indicators).
  • Protect luxury brand equity, pricing integrity, and ultra-premium positioning.
  • Secure high-profile On-Trade (F&B, hospitality) and Off-Trade (retail, e-commerce) listings.

Business Development & Expansion

  • Identify and gate new business opportunities in priority European markets.
  • Manage distributor relationships, expanding sales channels globally.
  • Oversee international travel and leisure sales strategies.
  • Monitor competing brands, market trends, and industry shifts, recommending strategic adaptations.

Financial & Team Leadership

  • Maintain effective budgetary control while delivering growth objectives.
  • Provide strategic financial insights for business planning and global expansion.
  • Inspire and develop the European sales team across all channels.

Collaboration & Activation

  • Partner with Marketing teams and distributors to deliver best-in-class brand activation.
  • Ensure alignment between corporate goals, brand strategy, and commercial execution.

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a commercial leader, managing high-performing teams.
  • Expertise in champagne, sparkling wine, and premium spirits sectors.
  • Extensive luxury brand experience, including pricing strategies and route-to-market (distribution).
  • Strong understanding of ultra-premium consumer trends and business-to-business luxury selling.
  • Track record of strategic market expansion, contract negotiations, and distributor management.
  • A network of trusted key accounts, distributors, and on-trade/off-trade contacts in Europe.

Desired Traits

  • Additional language fluency (French, German, Italian, etc.).
  • Relevant wine/spirits industry qualifications (desirable, not mandatory).
  • Strategic agility with a track record of turning opportunities into tangible growth.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication, execution, and representation skills.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced, international luxury business environments.
