New City College is seeking to appoint a Group Head of Security.
New City College is one of the largest and most successful colleges in the country, with a network of campuses across East London and Essex. In addition, we have language schools in Bournemouth, Oxford, and Canterbury – all central to the communities they serve. Formed through a series of mergers to strengthen provision and resilience, the College is now a leading force in further education. The estate spans 10 main campuses and more than 143,605m².
Reporting to the Deputy Group Director of Estates
The Group Head of Security will provide strategic leadership and professional oversight of security across the College. Acting as the principal security adviser, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering the College’s security strategy, ensuring a safe, secure, and resilient environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
- Leadership of security risk management, emergency planning, and business continuity
- Development of robust policies, standards, and systems
- Assurance on the effectiveness of security arrangements
- Oversight of security operations across multiple sites
- Driving continuous improvement through the analysis of performance and incident trends
- Strategic oversight of security infrastructure, including CCTV, access control, and alarm systems
- Ensuring these are compliant, fit for purpose, and aligned to risk
- Working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners such as police and local authorities
- Championing a coordinated and proactive approach to safety and security across the College
Requirements
- Experienced security leader with a strong track record in a senior security or risk management role
- Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing security strategies, managing complex incidents, and leading investigations
- Confidence operating at both strategic and operational levels
- Strong understanding of security risk, legislation, and best practice
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Ability to engage senior stakeholders and build effective partnerships
- Calm, credible, and solutions-focused
- Ability to lead and support teams across a multi-site organization, driving high standards and a culture of continuous improvement
