New City College seeks to appoint a Group Head of Security
About the Role
New City College is one of the largest and most successful colleges in the country, with a network of campuses across East London and Essex. In addition, we operate language schools in Bournemouth, Oxford and Canterbury—all central to the communities they serve.
Formed through mergers to strengthen provision, the College now leads further education across 10 main campuses and over 143,605m² of estate.
Reporting to the Deputy Group Director of Estates, the Group Head of Security will provide strategic leadership and oversight of security across the College. The role involves:
- Shaping and delivering the College’s security strategy
- Ensuring a safe, secure and resilient environment for students, staff and visitors
- Leading security risk management, emergency planning and business continuity
- Developing robust policies, standards and systems
- Providing performance assurance on security arrangements
- Overseeing security operations across multi-site environments
- Driving continuous improvement through incident and trend analysis
Additionally, the role includes strategic oversight of security infrastructure, including:
- CCTV systems
- Access control
- Alarm systems
- Ensuring compliance, usability and risk alignment

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
We are seeking an experienced security leader with:
- Senior security or risk management experience
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing security strategies
- Proven experience in managing complex incidents and investigations
- Clear understanding of:
- Security risk assessment
- Legislative compliance (such as GDPR, health & safety, emergency planning)
- Best practice frameworks
- Dualoperational and strategic skillset, transitioning seamlessly between roles
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills to:
- Engage senior stakeholders
- Build cross-organisational security partnerships
- Calm, credible leadership in high-pressure situations
- A solutions-focused approach to improving security risk

About The Role - Additional Notes
- Reporting line: Deputy Group Director of Estates
- Scale of operations: Multi-site (acios-based security management), multi-functional (risk, operational, infrastructure-led)
