# Senior Hygiene Manager
About the Role
To lead and develop a multi-site hygiene strategy, systems and team to ensure the facility, equipment and production environment consistently meet food safety, legal, customer and company standards. The role is responsible for delivering effective hygiene controls across a highly automated manufacturing operation while driving continuous improvement, audit readiness and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities

Own the site hygiene programme, including:
- Cleaning standards and schedules
- Work instructions
- Validation and verification activities (including Front of House Contracts)

Manage resourcing and engagement with third-party agency providers

Ensure all hygiene activities support compliance with:
- GMP
- HACCP
- COSHH
- Allergen control
- BRCGS expectations
- Site food safety requirements

Lead, coach and develop the hygiene team:
- QA staff
- Supervisors
- Operators
- To deliver safe and effective cleaning standards

Set and monitor hygiene KPIs:
- Through inspections
- Trend analysis
- Swabbing results
- Audit outcomes
- Downtime reporting
- Non-conformance analysis

- Automated lines
- Conveyors
- Fillers
- Packers
- Robotics
- Associated equipment

Review and improve procedures for:
- Clean-in-place
- Clean-out-of-place
- Tear-down cleaning
- Changeovers
- Deep cleaning tasks

Manage hygiene-related resources:
- Chemicals
- Consumables
- Equipment
- Contractor activity
- Budget control

Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for:
- Hygiene failures
- Environmental issues
- Pest problems
- Audit findings
- Relevant customer complaints

Maintain audit readiness and support:
- Third-party inspections
- Regulatory audits

Drive continuous improvement in:
- Hygiene methods
- Labour efficiency
- Chemical usage

Promote a strong food safety & health and safety culture across the site.
Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours
- Strong understanding of food manufacturing hygiene principles (preferred)
- Highly organised, detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of automated production equipment and hygiene risks (e.g., machinery, sensors, guarding interfaces)
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, planning & decision-making skills
- Strong ability to:
- Analyse trends
- Identify risks
- Implement corrective actions
- Confident cross-functional communicator who can influence teams at all levels

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Food manufacturing hygiene management experience (preferable)
- Experience leading teams in a regulated, audit-driven environment
- Working knowledge of:
- HACCP principles
- GMP standards
- Allergen control strategies
- COSHH compliance
Desirable:
- Food safety certification (e.g. Level 2 Food Safety)
- HACCP training
- Relevant health and safety or hygiene management qualifications
Working Conditions
- On-site requirements:
- Bradford as primary location
- ≈20% travel obligation to Deeside
- Operating hours:
- Flexible to cover bit shifts, nights, weekends, shutdowns and deep-cleaning periods
- Supports a 24/7 manufacturing environment
