Vertu Motors, Group Solicitor
Vertu Motors is the 4th largest motor retail group in the UK with 190 dealerships nationwide, and we are continuing to expand.
In order to achieve that goal, we need to have a strong professional infrastructure in place to support our successful retail colleagues. We are looking for a qualified solicitor with litigation experience to join our established in-house legal team. This role offers flexibility and autonomy while still having the support of our experienced team.
Working for the General Counsel you will act as the team's first point of contact on disputes and litigation. You will be required to manage and respond to court claims, provide a support service to dealerships on customer concerns by providing advice and assisting with drafting responses to customers, and supervising junior members of the team in responding to Motor Ombudsman cases. You will also manage the relationship with the group's external litigation lawyers, utilising their resource where appropriate.
Ideally you will work from our Support Services Centre in Gateshead for 4 days a week with 1-day a week working from home, but for the right person we would consider other locations and/or a different mix. The key to your success will be your attitude! We look for passionate, hardworking people who strive to deliver great customer outcomes and support for our dealerships.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
