About the Role
An instrumental, partner-facing role that shapes the future of tax and employment tax delivery, governance, and technology-enabled operations for a leading global law firm.
You will:
- Lead partner-facing tax compliance, advisory, and operational transformation within Tax and Partner Finance.
- Combine deep technical expertise with senior stakeholder management to enhance governance, automation, and efficiency.
- Be at the forefront of innovation, driving AI-, process automation-, and data solutions to improve scalability and accuracy.
This position demands leadership, innovation, and a strategic mindset, ensuring seamless alignment between processes, technology, and firm objectives.
Key Responsibilities
UK/International Tax Compliance & Advisory (40%)
- Delivery and oversight of tax matters across the entire partner population, including UK and allocated overseas territories.
- Support for partner tax return compliance:
- Internationally mobile partners
- Non-UK-resident partners
- Own and enhance UK partner tax reserving processes and global payment cycles.
International compliance & advisory:
- Partner payroll & compliance for overseas territories (including local return obligations).
- Initiate and oversee transfer pricing policies and documentation (e.g., partnership tax returns, TP local files, CbCR notifications).
- Handle advice on tax implications of:
- Cross-border transactions and business restructurings
- M&A (merge & acquisition activity and post-integration tax considerations)
- Provide commercial tax input to broader business strategy.
- Respond to tax authority enquiries supporting audits.
- Define and manage risk exposure (technical, financial, and reputational).

Employment tax & governance:
- Oversee employment tax for partners, including:
- TAX PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) compliance and advisory
- Minimum wage enforcement, termination payment guidance, expatriate matters
- IR35 (‘off-payroll’ reform), consulting tax exposures
- Interaction, harmonization, and advisory across HR and payroll functions.
Automation, Efficiency & Transformation (50%)
- Lead major transformation projects for tax and finance processes using AI and automation:
- Modernize UK partnership tax filings, PSA processes, and partner profit allocation.
- Drive scalable workflow changes.
- Process reimagining:
- Review and redesign manual processes, ensuring robust documentation and controls.
- Automate repetitive tasks for faster, error-free operations.
- Implement AI and predictive analytics, improving data quality and forecasting capabilities.
Senior Stakeholder Management
- Partner collaboration:
- Become a trusted advisor to partners, ExCo, and Finance leadership.
- Cross-functional alignment:
- Collaborate with HR, Payroll, IT, regulatory teams, and external advisors.
- Clear communication of complex issues:
- Translate tax impacts into actionable insights to support decision-making.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified chartered accountant (CTA/ACA/ACCA).
- Proven expertise with complex UK partner taxes (including trusts, remittance basis, dual status treatment).
- Process improvement, automation, or transformational leadership experience (preferably within professional services).
- Confident product knowledge of employment taxes, payroll tax laws.
- Tactful yet authoritative leadership, adept at influencing influential partners.
