Role Overview
This position is based within HM Prison Wayland in a supportive and structured rehabilitative environment. The Group Worker Rehabilitation role involves delivering tailored programmes to prisoners to:
- Help them understand and change behaviours that lead to offending
- Build positive relationships and critical thinking skills
- Support transition to an offence-free future
Working as part of a dedicated Treatment Team, the role is critical in helping Government objectives to reduce re-offending rates while supporting prisoners' rehabilitative progress.
Key Responsibilities
This role is non-operational and non-rotational, with no line management responsibilities. Primary duties include:
Programme Delivery
- Plan, deliver, and adapt group and individual sessions based on an approved manual.
- Organise and prepare materials to support session delivery.
- Adjust sessions in a responsive and needs-driven manner.
Assessment & Engagement
- Conduct assessments and screening tools to identify suitable participants.
- Recruit and engage prisoners in programmes, including motivational interviewing.
- Maintain an accurate database of participant progress, assessments, and outcomes.

Post-Programme Support
- Complete post-session debriefs, recording key points for records.
- Contribute to progress summaries, objective setting, and post-programme evaluations.
- Liaise with sentence managers and offender managers (both in-prison and community-based).
Legal & Operational Compliance
- Adhere to guidelines outlined in quality assurance frameworks.
- Participate in supervision sessions with programme and treatment managers.
- Deliver staff awareness packages on rehabilitation principles.
Professional Development
- Actively engage in continual professional development (provided).
- Support wider rehabilitative initiatives within the prison.
