Role Overview
This is not a standard CRO role and it is not a manual execution role. The operational infrastructure is already built. We have a full AI execution layer covering research synthesis, hypothesis generation, copywriting, design briefing, and development support. We have a proprietary delivery platform that manages how work is built and shipped. The systems exist.
What we are looking for is the person who sits at the top of that infrastructure and acts like a consultant for our clients. Someone who understands ecommerce and conversion well enough to know what good looks like, communicates with clients like a senior strategic partner, and applies commercial judgment to every decision. The job is to direct the engine, not build it.
The right person is strategically sharp, commercially driven, and a strong communicator. They back their own judgment, know how to read a client relationship, and understand that their value is in the quality of their thinking and the clarity of their direction, not the volume of their output.
What You Will Own
Client Strategy and Roadmap
- Own the full growth strategy for a portfolio of ecommerce clients
- Diagnose the highest-impact opportunities from day one using a structured diagnostic framework covering business context, metrics, customer persona, existing assets, seasonality, and data
- Build and maintain a prioritised monthly roadmap for every client grounded in their specific funnel, traffic profile, and commercial goals
- Present and agree the roadmap directly with the client at the monthly roadmap session, you are the senior strategic voice in that conversation
Client Relationship
- Own the client relationship end to end, you are their primary point of contact at ConversionWise
- Manage expectations proactively, handle escalations directly, and ensure the client always has a clear view of what is happening and why
- Spot relationship risk early and act on it before it becomes a problem
- The quality of the relationship is yours to own alongside the quality of the work
Strategic Direction and Oversight
- Set the strategic direction for every deliverable and ensure the execution layer, Optimo, the agent suite, designers, and developers are briefed clearly enough to build without ambiguity
- Review and approve all output before it reaches the client, you are the human gate between the execution layer and the client
- Ensure every hypothesis answers three questions: why this, why now, why for this client specifically
- Prioritisation should consider expected commercial impact, implementation effort, confidence level, and strategic timing
- Utilise existing internal knowledge and expertise, drawing parallels with competitor and internal brands to amplify the hypothesis and roadmaps for clients
- Apply the three-level validation spectrum: direct implementation for clear wins, directional signal testing where traffic supports it, full statistical testing for high-traffic clients with mature foundations

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Research and Intelligence
- Direct the research programme for every client, post-purchase surveys, customer surveys, user testing
- Synthesise findings into strategic insight that shapes the roadmap from month two onwards
- The agent suite accelerates this process. Your job is to interpret the output and connect it to commercial decisions
AI and Execution Layer
- Work with a full suite of AI agents built on ConversionWise methodology, hypothesis generation, research synthesis, copywriting, design briefing, development support
- These exist to make you faster and sharper, your job is to direct them well and quality-check the output
- Contribute to improving the toolkit as it develops and document approaches that make the team better
What Good Looks Like
- You read a client's Shopify store, their GA4 data, and their post-purchase survey responses and within 30 minutes with AI guidance, you have a clear view of the three highest-impact opportunities and a commercial rationale for why each one matters. That thinking feeds the engine and the engine moves.
- The client feels like they have a senior strategic partner who genuinely understands their business. They bring problems to you before they become complaints because the relationship is strong enough that they trust you to act.
- You interpret the output of the research and agent suite clearly and make confident decisions from it.
- You know what the data is telling you, you know what it isn't telling you, and you know what to do next.
- You apply judgment to every validation decision. The system surfaces the options, you make the call.
- You flag things early. If the data is pointing to a problem, if the client relationship needs attention, if the strategic direction needs to change, you act on it before someone else raises it.
Experience and Skills
Essential
- Minimum three years in an ecommerce, CRO, or growth strategy role with demonstrable commercial impact. Agency experience strongly preferred.
- Strong ecommerce literacy, you understand how online stores work, what drives conversion, and how to read performance data clearly.
- Experience owning client relationships directly, not supporting them. Renewals, difficult conversations, commercial discussions.
- Strong communicator. You can take a complex strategic position and make it clear and compelling to a client who is not an expert.
- Sound commercial judgment, you think in revenue terms and connect every decision to a business outcome.

Desirable
- Experience with subscription ecommerce and the dynamics of subscriber acquisition and retention.
- Experience with paid traffic landing page optimisation and the connection between ad creative and post-click conversion.
- Has built something with AI, an agent, a workflow, an automation. Not just used it. Built it.
- Experience contributing to internal playbooks, frameworks, or delivery methodologies.
Behaviours and Mindset
- Commercially driven: You think in revenue terms. A strategy is only good if it connects to a commercial outcome. A deliverable is only valuable if the client can see it working.
- Judgment over process: You know when to follow the framework and when the situation requires a different call. You back your convictions and measure their outcomes.
- Proactive by default: You identify the risk before the client raises it. You act on relationship signals before they become escalations. You do not wait to be asked.
- Intellectually honest: When something does not work you update your model. You do not explain it away.
- High standards: You care about the quality of everything that reaches the client. You hold yourself to that standard independently of whether anyone is checking.
First 90 Days
- 30 days: Understand systems, shadow roadmap sessions, own first accounts
- 60 days: Independently lead portfolio and strategy reviews
- 90 days: Demonstrate retained revenue, strategic wins, and client trust
What This Role Is Not
- Not a manual execution role, the infrastructure exists and you are here to direct it.
- Not a testing-first role where the default is to run an experiment regardless of context or traffic.
- Not a role for someone who needs significant direction before they can move. The environment rewards fast, well-reasoned independent judgment.
- Not a role for someone who sees AI as a threat or a gimmick. It is the engine that makes this role possible and you need to be comfortable at the wheel.
