Scenic Workshop Supervisor
Guildford School of Acting (GSA) at the University of Surrey is one of the UK's leading conservatoires, with a vibrant community of performers, creative practitioners, and technicians graduating from a wide range of programmes each year. Alongside undergraduate and postgraduate training, GSA runs a Junior Conservatoire, a Saturday School, short courses, and an extensive programme of public productions and events.
We deliver more than 30 assessed student productions annually, ranging from small-scale black box performances to fully realised productions in venues on and off campus, as well as filmed showcases.
Job Opportunity: Scenic Workshop Supervisor
The Role
The Scenic Workshop Supervisor provides technical expertise and support for the delivery and realisation of production designs as part of the Production Team and Operations and Events Department at GSA.
A key aspect of this role is supporting students across two production courses, helping them develop practical skills through the application of scenic construction processes and industry-standard procedures. The supervisor will contribute to teaching support for carpentry classes and deliver practical skills training to production students.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
