Guarantee Broadcast Engineer

Guarantee Broadcast Engineer - lead the engineering behind world-class live broadcasts.

At NEP, we power some of the most high-profile live productions across sport and entertainment, and as a Guarantee Broadcast Engineer within our OBStv UK team, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering them.

Based out of Bracknell and working across the UK, Ireland and further afield, you’ll take a leading role in the technical delivery of Outside Broadcasts, ensuring every production runs seamlessly from first signal to final output. This is a senior, hands-on position where deep technical expertise meets leadership, problem-solving, and client engagement.

You’ll work with cutting-edge IP, UHD and HD broadcast technology, alongside highly experienced teams, playing a critical role in maintaining NEP’s reputation for excellence on a global stage.

The Role

The role of Guarantee Broadcast Engineer is an exciting senior position within our UK based Engineering team, working on a range of NEP projects with our fleet of IP, UHD and HD outside broadcast trucks, fly-pack systems, and Broadcast Centres.

You will work with our IP, UHD and HD outside broadcast trucks, fly-pack systems and Broadcast Centre facilities.

You will play a pivotal role as part of a team, utilising our diverse and scalable combinations of traditional, remote, centralised and cloud-based workflow, capturing, recording, broadcasting and streaming high quality content for our prestigious client base. This will be enabled by NEP broadcast centres, data centres, venue kits, truck and flypack facilities, not just in in the UK and Ireland but around the world.

Responsibilities

Act as a lead Engineer in the delivery of outside broadcasts, both at our base in Bracknell and onsite at various locations, domestically and internationally, showing significant understanding of vision control operations with the ability to operate as a Vision Supervisor on all types of OB’s. Have an ingrained awareness and knowledge of the wider OB solution, including power requirements, air conditioning and unit hydraulic operation. Show significant understanding of vision control operations and be able to rack cameras to the standards expected from various sports and entertainment clients. Lead and plan the deployment of large fibre installations on outside broadcasts with an understanding of the varying facility different projects may require. Follow up faults and assist in the maintenance of our fleet. First-line fault-finding and repair of a range of broadcast and AV audio and video equipment; minimising loss of service at times of equipment failure by rapidly identifying and implementing temporary workarounds. Interpret and implement instructions and requests from clients, producers, directors and other colleagues.

Skills / Qualifications

HND level (or equivalent) in a relevant technical or scientific discipline with demonstrable experience in outside broadcast engineering. Previous experience working as an outside broadcast facilities guarantee engineer. Health & Safety: an understanding or qualification in BS7909 power regulations is desirable. Knowledge of vision mixers, hybrid routing systems, EVS, general video systems and outside broadcast truck workflow. Knowledge and experience of working with 4K. IP technology would be good. Understand the workflows and practices required by major UK broadcasters. Good fault-finding skills. Developed communication, including written, verbal and client facing skills. Logical thought processes; ability to work well under pressure. Ability to remain calm under pressure. Ability to use initiative; be capable and willing to accept assignments outside of his/her usual sphere of experience. Time management skills and ability to work to very tight deadlines. Must be prepared to work flexibly across all aspects of the NEP Ireland and OBStv teams – assisting other departments as necessary; demonstrate an adaptable approach to the job and be amenable to last minute changes to operational requirements. Willingness to develop a working knowledge of all NEP Ireland and OBStv OB vehicles, including the ability to step into unfamiliar vehicles when necessary. A thorough knowledge of all broadcast sound equipment and work flows. Work within all NEP policies guidelines and working practices. Promote Health & Safety guidelines, customer working practices and adhere to any applicable legislation. Attend training courses as required. The ability to be self-motivated and establish effective working relationships with other members of the team. An awareness of the need to gain and retain the confidence of the customer to ensure an ongoing business relationship. Must be willing to travel (essential). Full clean UK driving licence.
