Hours of work: 37 Working pattern: Full-time, term-time only (including INSET days) plus 1 extra week in the school holidays Contract type: Permanent Start date: 1 September 2026
Salary Range (pro rata): £23,768 – £24,538 (equating to Single Status Grade 6, Points 14–17)

About the Role
We are looking for a Guidance Leader in our Secondary Phase of Cavendish School, an all-through academy.
This is a highly influential role in supporting the Pastoral Team, ensuring the effectiveness and impact of our student welfare, wellbeing, and academic progress. The ideal candidate will bring:
- A positive, motivated, and professional attitude.
- Experience or aspirations to work effectively in a pastoral leadership capacity.
Core Duties
The Guidance Leader will:
- Be the attached guidance leader for a designated year group to support the Head of Year in pastoral matters.
- Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (Secondary) to ensure children are safe and supported.
- Demonstrate excellent team leadership skills to manage the team effectively in their area.
- Maintain strong communication and negotiation skills with pupils, parents, staff, and external agencies while having a deep understanding of student needs.
- Actively contribute to creating an environment where all students are challenged, motivated, and empowered.

Key Responsibilities
- Student Support: Encourage and inspire pupils to excel academically, socially, and emotionally, fostering a mind-set of "believing anything is possible."
- Safeguarding & Welfare: Assisting the Designated Safeguarding Lead in ensuring the wellbeing and protection of students, including any community outreach or support.
- Leadership: Taking responsibility for pastoral care of a year group, collaborating with the Head of Year to address academic progression and personal development.
- Relationship Building & Teamwork: Establish positive relationships with students, staff, and external partners, and support the wider school community.
Ideal Candidate Attributes
- Academic and pastoral experience in a secondary school environment is preferred, though all qualified educators are encouraged to apply.
- Passionate about social and emotional development alongside widening educational opportunities.
- Committed to personal and professional growth while actively supporting a supportive team environment.
- Recognises the importance of diversity in student experience and promoting equality and inclusion.
Key Requirements
- Enhanced DBS Check: This role is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check due to our commitment to safeguarding.
- Childcare Disqualification Regulations Compliance: In accordance with the 2018 Childcare Disqualification Regulations, the successful candidate must complete a self-declaration form to confirm they are not subject to disqualification.
- Interest in our All-through Academy model, where we believe in holistic development and personalised support systems.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding practices and child protection protocols.
