Join us as a Gulley Wagon Operative in Salford to work at a local level to protect residents and businesses from the damage and disruption of flooding.

As part of the Salford team, you can work close to home and family – and feel a sense of connection to the community you serve.

We will provide opportunities to grow your skills and knowledge in drainage engineering. You will also get to assist with the wider work of our Highways Construction team – providing the chance to gain new skills, experience and expertise.

Your role

  • Clean gullies following a maintenance schedule and jet if required.
  • Record and report issues and findings during maintenance activity.
  • Attend instances of flooding and investigate/alleviate issues, reporting back to the drainage supervisor/engineer.
  • Communicate as required with the general public when out on the job.
  • Assist with wider tasks within Highways Construction such as transport and disposal of paving and road materials, laying tarmac, setting out roadworks and installing poles and street furniture.
  • Be willing to work out of hours during extreme weather events.

Your profile

  • Class 2 HGV Licence.
  • Previous experience of manual work and using plant equipment/machinery.
  • Proven practical/technical skills with a track record of working reliably to deadlines on a gulley wagon.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • A desire to gain new skills.
  • A sense of pride in being a visible representative of the council, working to improve the local community.
