Transportation Team – Drainage Operative
Based in Northamptonshire (Brixworth, Northampton), Kier Transportation is seeking a Drainage Operative to join our team in maintaining the reliability of the UK’s road network—an essential role in keeping our communities moving.

Location & Working Arrangements
- Location: Brixworth, Northamptonshire
- Hours: Permanent full-time role (45 hours/week)
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 06:00–15:30
- Salary: £31,636.80 (pro-rata if adjusted) + overtime and call-out payments
- Certificates of Sponsorship: Not available for this role
About the Role
Within the Kier Transportation team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient operation of highway drainage systems.
Key Responsibilities (Day-to-Day Duties)
- Operating a gully truck to perform both scheduled and emergency drainage maintenance
- Cleaning and maintaining complete drainage systems, including:
- Gully pots
- ACO channels
- Culverts
- Interceptors
- Using high-pressure jetting equipment to clear blockages and ensure smooth drainage functionality
- Recording completed work on handheld devices
- Modifying the reliable response during adverse weather or flooding events

Requirements & Qualifications
This Drainage Operative role is ideal if you have:
✅ Experience operating high-pressure jetting equipment or similar heavy vehicle systems.
✅ Ability to confidently work outdoors in all weather conditions—adaptable, and physically resilient.
✅ Strong communication skills to liaise with team members and collaborate with the public while strictly adhering to safety protocols.
✅ A UK driving licence and a Class 2 HGV licence.
