Gyms Duty Manager

Role Overview

This position requires a team player with flair, commercial acumen, and the skill, energy, and determination to help drive and develop the business alongside the General Manager. We are seeking a manager with experience in maintaining and elevating gym standards while nurturing a growing membership base and team.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational management of the gym at all times
  • Open and close the site as required based on business operational hours (expect early mornings, late weekdays, and weekend work)
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, including:
    • Health & Safety Employee Policy
    • Company Procedures Handbook
  • Uphold JD Gyms Brand Standards in all areas
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety checks
  • Report and follow up on defects for building and equipment safety
  • Achieve and exceed sales/membership targets
  • Maximise secondary spend revenue (e.g., merchandise procurement)
  • Ensure the gym’s cleanliness and high standards, including cleaning outside contracted hours
  • Supervise in-house cleaners (General Assistants) to maintain hygiene protocols
  • Implement uniform standards for all team members
  • Deliver exceptional member service consistently
  • Foster a positive team culture, ensuring everyone—both staff and contracted personnel—enjoys their work experience
  • Undertake additional duties, projects, or meetings as assigned
  • Represent JD Gyms as an ambassador in all interactions

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Management experience in a leisure-related industry
  • Passion for customer service, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills
  • Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification
  • Proven ability in driving sales and coordinating local marketing efforts
  • Experience in managing broader team operations (e.g., as an Assistant Manager or Fitness Manager) within a fitness/leisure setting

Ideal:

  • Outstanding track record as an Assistant Manager or Fitness Manager
  • Comprehensive management experience in operational functions specific to high-quality gym environments
