Hairdresser - Regimes and Activities Team

Position Details

  • Type: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours/week)
  • Salary: £29,000 per annum + excellent benefits
  • Location: Bedford, MK44 2FQ

About the Role

As a Hairdresser in our Regimes and Activities team, you’ll provide a professional hairdressing and barbering service to residents within a secure environment. Your work will promote wellbeing, dignity, and confidence, making a tangible difference in people’s daily lives.

You’ll work collaboratively to maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive space while continuously improving service delivery. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through hands-on care and professional services.


What You’ll Do

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing hairdressing and barbering services according to the agreed daily schedule
  • Managing an effective appointment system to meet residents’ needs
  • Maintaining tools, equipment, and records in line with Serco’s policies
  • Building positive, respectful relationships with residents from all backgrounds
  • Reporting concerns, particularly those affecting safety and security
  • Collaborating with colleagues to deliver high-quality and consistent service

Experience & Skills Required

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • Experience in a fast-paced salon or similar environment
  • Strong skills in cutting and styling male and female hair
  • Knowledge of diverse hair types, including:
    • Afro-Caribbean
    • Asian
    • Caucasian
  • A professional, calm approach when working in a secure environment
  • A commitment to dignity, respect, and care in all interactions

As this role involves working with vulnerable individuals, the following security measures are required:

  • Enhanced DBS check (including spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and local police records)
