Hairdressing Lecturer
Hairdressing Lecturer
Application Deadline: 10 July 2026
Department: Hairdressing
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Wigan & Leigh College Compensation: £31,699 - £42,540 / year
About the Role
Permanent, Full-Time Position
You know the craft. Now teach what professional hairdressing really takes.
Your students may arrive with a love for hairdressing. Your responsibility is to turn that passion into skill, confidence, and professional judgement.
As our Hairdressing Lecturer, you will teach students from Entry Level to Level 3. You’ll develop their practical techniques, introduce them to salon standards, and foster client care, discipline, and confidence—elements vital to the industry.
This role is a blend of hands-on teaching. You’ll demonstrate techniques, guide students through practical salon work, assess their progress, and help them refine their approach. You’ll ensure they recognise that exceptional hairdressing extends beyond the final outcome—it’s about consultation, prepwork, safety, timing, communication skills, and putting clients at ease.
Your industry experience will enrich the classroom and salon environment, bridging theory with real-world practice. You’ll support students in:
- Building a client base
- Exploring apprenticeships
- Progressing toward further study
- Launching their own careers in the trade
While teaching expertise is beneficial, you don’t need to be an experienced educator right away. If you master the craft, communicate it clearly, and desire to inspire others, we’ll support you in obtaining the required qualifications and training to thrive in this teaching role.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Teaching practical and theoretical hairdressing from Entry Level to Level 3.
- Demonstrating professional techniques while explaining the why behind them.
- Designing structured lessons that cultivate technique mastery, confidence, and salon standards.
- Assessing practical and written work, providing clear, supportive feedback, and helping students improve.
- Ensuring students develop consultation, communication, and client-care skills.
- Maintaining high standards for punctuality, dress code, hygiene, and professionalism.
- Guiding students toward greater independence, precision, and creativity.
- Leading practical salon sessions reflective of real-world salon demands.
- Prepping students for apprenticeships, employment, competitions, further study, and industry showcases.
- Keeping your knowledge of the industry current, integrating new techniques, trends, and products.
- Contributing to Open Evenings, taster sessions, and other promotional events for Hair & Beauty programs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
