Handyperson
Handy Person – Permanent Part-Time (12 Hours Per Week)
£27,613 per annum (pro rata), £14.12 per hour Exeter city centre, Devon Flexible working hours
About the Role
At Home Group, we provide vital support to those who have experienced street homelessness. Our 19-bed hostel in the Exeter city centre requires a practical, multi-skilled professional to help deliver our mission by ensuring smooth, swift, and safe operations.
We’re looking for a dependable, hands-on team member with maintenance expertise and a can-do attitude to step in and deliver essential on-site tasks. You’ll assist colleagues in providing stable services, so we can get people back on their feet without delay.
What You’ll Do
Your core responsibilities include:

Property maintenance & repairs:
- Conduct minor or emergency repairs across hostel properties and communal areas
- Perform decorating and cleaning tasks, such as:
- Hanging curtain poles
- Moving/assembling furniture
- Touching up paint
- Changing washers or taps
- Unblocking sinks/drainpipes
- Clearing communal grounds

Fire safety compliance:
- Carry out regular fire safety checks to ensure our hostel meets standards

Customer and colleague collaboration:
- Work cohesively with colleagues, contractors, and residents
- Liaise with the Customer Service Centre to report and track repairs beyond your remit

What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone who embodies:

A team player with enthusiasm and a "can-do" attitude

Basic trade skills and comfort with:
- Carpentry (light assembly/demolition work)
- Plumbing (unblocking, tap/washer replacements)
- Decorating (painting, wall repairs)
- Cleaning/maintenance (clearing floors, decluttering)

Strong communication skills, comfortable working with anyone from all backgrounds

Tech-savviness for:
- Reporting repairs ad-hoc
- Managing admin tasks and record-keeping
Business Travel Requirement
- A vehicle insured for business use is mandatory. We’ll fund your mileage.

- Location: On-site at Exeter (Prospect House)
- Occasional travel: Drive-outside base for added support when required
