Handyperson
Handyperson – Exeter City Centre, Devon
Salary: £27,613 per annum (pro rata, £14.12 per hour) Contract: Permanent, part time (12 hours per week), flexible hours Location: Exeter city centre
About the Role
We can’t offer Career Structure (CoS) for this role.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our ETAAS team and contribute hands-on skills to support our mission—helping people experiencing street homelessness off the streets. As a Handyperson, you’ll assist colleagues in maintaining properties and communal areas safely and efficiently, ensuring our 19-bed hostel operates smoothly.
Your practical expertise will directly impact people’s lives—what you do makes a real difference!
Responsibilities
- Repairs & Maintenance: Perform minor or emergency repairs, including decorating, cleaning properties, and communal areas.
- Task Execution: Handle tasks such as:
- Hanging curtain poles
- Moving and rearranging furniture
- Touching up paint
- Changing washers
- Unblocking sinks
- Clearing grounds
- Fire Safety: Carry out regular fire safety checks.
- Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues of all roles, contractors, and customers.
- Repair Coordination: Liaise with the Customer Service Centre and contractors to escalate or follow up on repairs beyond your remit.

Requirements
- Practical & Team Skills: A team player with a can-do attitude and energy.
- Technical Ability:
- Sound general maintenance knowledge
- Basic carpentry & plumbing skills
- Comfortable with painting, cleaning, or tool use
- Communication & Adaptability: Ability to engage with people across diverse backgrounds and use technology for admin, reporting, and record-keeping.
- Mobility: Requires access to an insured vehicle for business purposes—mileage is reimbursed.
Enhanced DBS check (paid by Home Group) is mandatory.
