Hardware Architect (Hardware Staff Engineer)

East Kilbride, Scotland (Onsite/Hybrid)

Your Impact

As a Hardware Architect (Hardware Staff Engineer) you will provide technical leadership for the development of advanced monitoring, protection, recording, and analytics solutions used throughout electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution networks.

You will own the system and hardware architecture for complex embedded products, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and aligned with customer and business needs. Working closely with Firmware, Software, Systems, Test, and Product Management teams, you will define technical direction, make critical architectural decisions, and guide engineering teams from concept through deployment and lifecycle support.

Here's where you'll demonstrate your proficiencies:

  • Own the system and hardware architecture for embedded monitoring and industrial instrumentation products.
  • Define system-level requirements, architectures, interfaces, and technical strategies aligned to customer, regulatory, and business objectives.
  • Allocate requirements across hardware, mechanical, manufacturing, and test disciplines.
  • Partner closely with Firmware and Software Architects to ensure alignment of architectures, interfaces, technology roadmaps, and performance objectives.
  • Drive system-level trade-off decisions involving performance, reliability, accuracy, cybersecurity, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and product lifecycle considerations.
  • Define sensing, signal acquisition, processing, communications, timing, storage, and power architectures for complex embedded systems.
  • Lead architecture reviews, design reviews, and technical governance activities throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Develop platform strategies that maximise technology reuse across multiple product families.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), sustaining engineering, obsolescence management, and product enhancement initiatives.
  • Identify technical risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and provide leadership during complex technical investigations.
  • Support strategic customer engagements, technical due diligence activities, and key technology partnerships.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence through standards, best practices, and technical leadership.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing embedded hardware products, with significant experience leading complex technical projects.
  • Proven experience defining and delivering system architectures for embedded products from concept through production and lifecycle support.
  • Strong understanding of mixed-signal electronics, embedded processors, communications interfaces, networking technologies, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, architecture decomposition, interface definition, verification strategy, and technical risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical decision-making across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience balancing technical, commercial, manufacturing, quality, and programme considerations.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence and guide engineering teams without direct line management responsibility.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
