We are always looking for exceptional individuals to join our multinational group of talented professionals, and right now we are seeking an experienced and talented Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team in Kent.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the design and development of sophisticated electronic hardware used in industry-leading portable test and measurement instruments. Working across both new product development and sustaining engineering, you'll play a key role in delivering robust hardware solutions that combine precision low-level analogue measurement with embedded control systems.
You'll work throughout the full product lifecycle—from concept and architecture through design, validation and production—collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges and deliver products used by engineers worldwide. This role offers significant technical autonomy and the opportunity to influence product design, engineering standards and future developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of analogue and digital electronic hardware from concept through to production.
- Design analogue and digital electronic circuits to specification, including simulation, validation and optimisation.
- Develop and review PCB layouts using industry-standard ECAD tools (Altium preferred), ensuring designs are optimised for manufacture, performance and reliability.
- Produce high-quality engineering documentation, including schematics, design specifications, technical reports and design justifications.
- Define and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), balancing technical performance, cost, manufacturability, availability and component lifecycle considerations.
- Work closely with firmware, mechanical and manufacturing engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Provide technical input during design reviews, presenting, justifying and challenging engineering decisions where appropriate.
- Support sustaining engineering activities, including product improvements, component obsolescence management and redesign projects.
- Apply structured engineering methodologies including DFM, DFT, FMEA and value engineering to deliver high-quality, manufacturable designs.
- Maintain compliance with internal quality systems and relevant international standards.
- Mentor and share technical knowledge with colleagues, contributing to continuous improvement within the engineering team.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies and engineering best practice to help shape future product development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Strong expertise in analogue and digital circuit design, ideally within precision measurement or instrumentation products.
- Experience designing hardware involving low-level analogue signal acquisition and processing.
- Proficient using ECAD tools (Altium preferred) for schematic capture and PCB design.
- Good understanding of EMC, product compliance and design for manufacture principles.
- Experience using simulation and analysis tools such as SPICE, MATLAB, Simulink or MathCAD is desirable.
- Familiarity with relevant standards such as ISO 9001, IEC 61010 and IEC 61557 would be advantageous.
- Hands-on experience using laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, DMMs and power supplies.
- Strong fault-finding, debugging and component-level analysis skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical solutions to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Able to work independently, manage technical priorities and contribute effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
