HE Technical Demonstrator (FTE 0.8, Term Time Only)

Location: University Campus Oldham

Salary: £29,733.96 to £32,388.36 per annum

Contract Type: Part-time, Permanent (Term Time Only)

About The Role

We are excited to invite applications for the position of HE Technical Demonstrator at University Campus Oldham. This part-time role (0.8 FTE) is integral to supporting our Higher Education Media & Digital Media programmes, ensuring that students receive hands-on, practical experience with the latest technologies and industry-standard equipment.

As a Technical Demonstrator, you will work closely with academic staff and students, delivering demonstrations, assisting with technical workshops, and maintaining equipment to the highest standard. Your expertise will directly contribute to the success of our students and the reputation of Oldham College’s HE provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical demonstrations and technical support for Media & Digital Media courses, including audio, video, and digital editing equipment.
  • Assist academic staff in preparing and delivering technical workshops and practical sessions, ensuring smooth operation and safety compliance.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot technical equipment, including cameras, lighting rigs, editing suites, and software platforms.
  • Support students by offering guidance and advice on technical processes and best practices during practical sessions.
  • Ensure all technical resources are well-organised, maintained, and updated according to curriculum needs and technological advancements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching resources and learning environments.
  • Adhere to all college policies, including health and safety, safeguarding, and equality and diversity.

Person Specification

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant experience in Media & Digital Media technical roles, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Strong practical knowledge of media production equipment such as cameras, lighting, sound recording, and editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Avid, Final Cut Pro).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and motivate students.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Awareness of health and safety regulations related to media equipment and studio environments.
  • A relevant qualification in Media, Digital Media, or a related technical discipline is desirable.
